not an adventure for the faint-hearted.I went to the agency 1 time when I arrived in Bishkek,Kyrgyzstan and it was more out of curiosty and the need to express a thanks...
Learning "any" of the language to where you are going to will be extremely helpful if you don't want to be a puppet on a string(by an agency)while there to where you are traveling.I stood a full month with my now wife while I was there and I don't know of any other way to truelly get to know someone other than to spend some time meeting the ladys' family and friends and seeing firsthand where she comes from and what her life is all about. She'll have the same oppertunity for 90 days on a K-i fiancee visa with you if things work out between yous'...

As for the agencies...Only one solution...Make your contacts...write your letters...DON'T SEND ANY GAL MONEY UNTIL YOU'VE MET HER IN PERSON...And get on a plane and begin the rest of your lives instead of just posting here and belly-acking about agencies and scams...
BTW...How are things in S.D. Ken?

I too wanted as little agency involvement between myself and the ladies I was meeting.  I simply bought addresses when I was searching and contacted them through mail (dating myself here).  The address purchase was my last contact with any agency.  But there are many men who want convenience.  They want a beautiful young wife and as little effort as possible in getting from a fantasy in front of a computer to marriage nirvana.  E-mail forwarding with translation, interpreters, drivers, gift delivery, parties where the women greatly outnumber the men, etc. etc.  The agencies, which are businesses with the same intent of any business, i.e. to make a profit, mold themselves to what the majority want.

Everyone serious about this endeavor should be studying the language of the ladies and doing everything they can to become as independent as possible.  The man is going to be all alone with the lady in the end.  Best to prepare for that relationship before marrying, rather than to rely on a company to enable the relationship through a vast array of services.  It's not an agency that's going to determine the success of a marriage, or if a couple even forms a serious relationship.  It's the two people involved in it.

Too many guys fret endlessly over which agency to use.  They think that's the key to success.  If they poured that same energy into preparing themselves for marriage to a foreign woman, they'd be much better off in the end.

Patrick,
I "used" my agency and the interpretors in many different ways.  As the interpretors were already paid for, I used them to coordinate things for my dates with Lena and as tour guides while she was not available.  I had the agency's driver take me and my interpretor around town twice.  Once was to collect things for a Christmas basket for Lena's family.  You know, fruits, meats, cheeses, wine and candies.  The basket was a totally bizarre thing to the Russians but was appreciated beyond belief.  The second time we shopped for things necessary for a romantic dinner in my flat.  I would have like to have been able to cook the food, but that was too much of a hassle.  Another bizarre request, to find "take out" food that wasn't pizza.  LOL.  Again, with a little effort, things worked out great.  Both of these actions were a direct result of me realizing that I was going to do things MY WAY.  I was determined to be the same man in Russia that I would have been here.

I think some men think they're buying a marriage to the woman of their choice (if not the woman herself!).  In reality, what they're buying is an introduction service that puts them in contact with ladies who are interested in marrying a foreign man.  That doesn't mean that the woman will be interested in them in particular.

This is precisely the reason why I want to see copious amounts of DETAIL when someone says an agency (or lady) is scamming.  I think unrealistic expectations and paranoia are more common than real scams.  Most guys, especially newbies with no experience, buy a scam story without even so much as a doubt or question, even if no details whatsoever are presented.

EVERY agency that's been around more than a few months will have unsatisfied clients who are going to label them as scammers.  However, determining whether the person reporting a scam was really scammed isn't easy.  These stories are usually posted by angry men and their intent is to get revenge on the agency rather than to convey useful information that might help others avoid a scam.  Sometimes they really were scammed, sometimes not.  Without the details, it's impossible to be sure.  Even with the details it's still uncertain, but at least if the details are presented, everyone can make up their own mind.
