Hi Everybody,

Sorry, I have been home for a week now (was gone for 2 weeks) and am just getting the time (and energy) to report..

I flew Delta (double sky miles!) through London then Ukraine International to Kiev.  Got there on Feb 23rd at 5:25pm.  Lucky, no lost baggage etc..  Jack from FirstDream had his man Rostick meet me at the airport.  He hung out with me for a few hours and then got me to the Train station for my overnight train ride to Dnepropetrovsk.  He had bought a first class compartment for me a few days earlier so in case there was a sell out, I would have a ticket.  Rostic was great, very helpful, excellent English.  But I can't forgive him for taking me down to the bathroom at the train station so I could take a dump, only to find these lovely stalls where there was nothing but a hole in the floor to squat and dump in!  OH MY GOSH!! LOL!  I just couldn't do it! LOL!  Then the door of my stall somehow would NOT open no matter WHAT I did!  So I finally had to climb up to the top of the stall (which is like 8 feet high) and crawl out and then drop to the floor!! LOL!  It was pretty funny!  I'm glad nobody else was in there at the time because I would have felt pretty stupid!! ;-)

Anyway, the train.  I had bought the whole compartment (two berths to a compartment).  This cost about $45.  There had been a lot of talk here about trains and guys taking clothesline to tie their doors shut or other things to make sure their doors were secure etc.., but I am telling you, there are TWO locks on the door.  One on the handle which the lady manager of the car has a key to be able to open from the outside, and also a lever at the top of the door which pulls down so the door cannot possibly be opened.  There is NO way to foil this lock from the outside, so nobody needs to worry about the security of the doors.  I went from Kiev to Dnepro to Odessa and back to Dnepro on the trains and the doors were the same on all of them, very secure.

The train RIDE was a different matter... The berths are quite short and narrow.  I am 6'4" so not so good for me, but worse than this is the fact that these trains are NOT smooth!  They are very bumpy etc..  So my sleep was pretty on and off..

But I got to Dnepropetrovsk ok the next morning.  Dnepro is a very industrial city.  Large and not really pretty like Kiev or the even prettier Odessa.  It is a working man's town, a REAL Ukrainian city, not a tourist trap.  My plan was to go to Dnepro for 4 days then go on to Odessa.  If I found the best girl in Odessa, I could stay there for the rest of my trip.  If I liked a girl in Dnepro best, I could go back there after a while in Odessa.  I had written to quite a few girls in both cities.

It is my opinion (and I have spent a month in Kiev before so I am not a newbie) that Dnepro is an untapped gold mine as far as women are concerned!  I met about 12 girls there in the 4 days I was there and I think only about 2 had ever met an American before!  And of those two, they had both only met one American!  Much different than my experience in Kiev where some girls had met perhaps 30 foreign men or more!
Not one of these girls was a no-show for our meetings and very rarely were any of them late either, something most of us who have been to Kiev or Odessa would not be used to!

There are a lot of good people in DNP. And you are so right that it is a truly Ukrainian city. Very different from Kiev and Odessa.
Thanks.

Those types of toilets are common in asia and some people call them bombsites.

Hey, did those toilets have toilet paper or are we supposed to use small bills?

When you go on the train, does Jack's agency just leave you or does somebody accompany you?

Is somebody ready to meet you at the destination if you were alone on the train?

Yes, Jacks people put me on the trains and his people met me at my destinations.  No need to have someone on the train with you.  Just buy both berths ($45) in a first class car.  You don't want to see what anything less than first class is! LOL!

I asked because some people have said you have to take your own because a lot of places don't have it in Ukraine.

I can say that in some public toilets they have some person outside with a roll of toilet paper and you will pay a few coins to use the bathroom and get some paper from the lady.  You just tear off some of the paper and take it with you.  You had just better hope that you take enough with you when you go in. LOL.

I always travel with these travel size toilet paper pouches so I am never really in trouble about not having toilet paper.  Toilet paper is a real necessity and I never travel without it.

about being 6'4" is that if you were only 5'4" getting over that stall would not have been so easy Smiley))

Stick with the plan and meet all the women you're supposed to.  Get on the train and don't leave people wondering where the heck you are.

Greg,
Oscar really hit the nail on the head in his post above.  He said if you alter your plans, you will always wonder what you missed out on.  I think this would be an automatic feeling if you have a less than successful trip.

When I first met Lena, I was ready to cancel any meetings with other women.  But Lena played a little coy with me as not to seem to be as interested as she really was.  (Smart girl, and I know the truth now. LOL)  In hindsight, it was very good for me to meet other RW.  I came home knowing that I could have a large selection of women to choose from but that Lena was the only one I wanted.  THAT, my friend, is a pretty good feeling.

Sounds like a good trip so far.  I'm eager to hear more.  Do you think it is possible to travel by train to several cities without an interpreter with you?  Did you have an interpreter or someone to help you transfer between Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa?  Hope to hear more about these two cities and the ladies.

No, I always took the train alone and I speak only a few words.  The main thing is to have a watch that has an alarm because these trains are VERY accurate for getting into the stations at EXACTLY the posted time, they pride themselves on it!  So if they are looking to get in a little early, the train will literally slow dwn to almost a crawl just so they are in at the right time!  The main point is to have an interpreter put you ON the train and that there would be one there to pick you up at the station you arrive at, knowing your train and coach number in advance..

But really, I cannot say I would recommend the trains if you can avoid them, why?  Well, they are very bumpy and not very comfortable in my opinion.  But also, when I left Dnepropetrovsk to go back to Kiev at the end of my trip, I flew and it cost me $100.  The train would have cost $48 and it takes 12 hours, from 7pm at night to 7am in the morning!  The plane took an hour and a half!  I think it was worth it for $50 bucks!!
