Add Dan to the list

I see no need to incite JJ (in whatever username he comes up with).  Doing so only creates more posts that I must later delete, making my job harder.

That makes five so far put on watch.  Of those five, two have been banned (though JJ seems to be making a determined effort to stay, which I think shows his true colors).  We now have the following three individuals on watch-

BarryM
Ryan
Dan

Do not post messages calling them names.  If you disagree with someone, by all means do so, but do it civilly.  I will not put up with the continual fighting anymore.  So far, both Ryan and BarryM are being quite good about following the rules (thanks guys).

Any posts by JJ (in whatever username he registers with) and replies to him will be deleted.

We all have a responsibility to keep the troll infestation down to a minimum.  Engaging a troll in arguments does nothing but play into the troll's hands.  No matter how much information we have, if we end up wasting that information by encouraging trolls to pollute the board, then we are doing more to detract than add to the board's effectiveness.

Don't get me wrong.  We all have our needs at times to respond to a troll.  I have done it myself.  But continually baiting them does nothing but invite further attacks.  I almost quit reading the board again with all the Dan, Barry, and Jack versus the trolls.  When 95% of what you read is worthless trolling and troll baiting, what's the point of even wasting the effort to look at what's being posted?

I disagree with the trolls.  I disagree with the troll baiters.  I disagree with those who do cannot accept diversity and allow each to their own opinions.  I disagree with those who cannot keep themselves from personally attacking others instead of addressing what they are saying.  All such acts are childish and not worthy of us.  We are (hopefully) mature men and women here and we should hold ourselves to a higher standard than just teenagers with an attitude.

While I do enjoy the information and experience that Dan provides, I have to agree with Patrick on this one.  We all sometimes need to get that "wakeup" call to show us that we need to change our behaviors.  Believe me, we all need to start paying attention to it, as once you marry a Russian lady you'll need all your wits about you to keep her happy...

everyone see's things in their own perspective.

the board losses a little when effected by trolls who can stay around for awhile, as has been the case over the last few months. dan was able to bring a little more respect to planet-love.

johnk as the first non-troll in support of this action I am sure there might be another person, I doubt there would be two, who might agree with you. i for one am glad dan did what he did. i think that all who read and use this board as a learning tool truely appreciate dan's recent actions.

Hi Patrick,

   I really cannot see lumping him in the same category.  He has been of enormous help to many here including myself,  on-board and off-board.  I think that for him to see all the mis-information spread by the likes of jj can be very frustrating.  People who lurk on the board read all that pollution and may beleive it.  Actually,  I think many of his replies and corrections to these polluters is instructive because it points out to the reader how absolutely whacked-out the info is they are posting.  And it really must be frustrating and probably drives the guy up the wall reading their drivel.  I know it is totally annoying to see all that pollution and I feel he has tried to counter it so even the niave will know for sure that the jj's of this world are only spewing junk.  I respectfully hope you will reconsider your assessment of Dan.

Patrick,
How much self control should a man exhibit before he counter attacks?  I know everyone (yourself included) have only so much tolerance.  For the abuse that Dan has weathered here from idiots like jj and spyke, you should be complimenting his self control, not warning him of being banned.  How can you even put him in the same category as Ryan?  Ryan has been argumentative, abusive, and has posted so much misinformation that he has become a poster child of "how not to find a RW."  His foul and disrespectful "poem" about Barry should have been enough to give him the boot.  Yet you choose to lump Dan in the same group?  Dan is probably THE MOST RESPECTED poster here.  He has more information about travels to FSU countries than anyone and goes well out of his way to help everyone.  Dan's only SMALL indiscretion was to post a few smart alleck remarks in response to a BANNED poster.  He even apologized for his actions later.

I know that you had to take drastic measures to get this forum back on track because it was completely out of control, but you discredit Dan by even warning him.  This forum needs Dan more than you realize obviously.  I hope that your warning does not curtail his posting here.  You shot yourself in the foot on this one Patrick.

I agree, I have never seen uncivil posts from Dan and when it comes to accurate travel and visa information he has provided very competent help.  I do not understand why he is in this list.

If you delete Dan, Barry and Ryan - there will be hardly any posters left.  Please do not do that.  Besides, Dan is one of the true voices of reason on this board.  If you ban him you do all of us a grave disservice.

It's been the guys who can't control themselves that were banned.  I think all three of these guys can, and will, keep from mucking up the board with attacks on others.

Things have just gotten too out of control here and the place will no longer be useful if people are allowed to fill the board with junk.  I feel completely justified in banning both Spyke and JJ, especially now that they're trying to trash the board.  I think that shows what types they really are.

Patrick,

I do have one concern regarding your troll maintenance.  If a viable thread is infected deeper in the discussion by a troll, will the entire thread be deleted?  If so, it could end up removing important information that might be better to keep.  How will you manage this?  Just curious...

The thread gets deleted from the point where the troll came in.  Any replies to that post, or replies to replies of it, etc. are deleted.  The original material stays.
