Olga is bugging me. She bought 6 bottles she wants to have for our wedding. Someone told me they weren't allowed to take it out of the country. Does anyone know or have any experience with this? She is flying (hopefully) from Moscow to JFK.

You are allowed to take in 1 liter of vodka without paying a tax.  Every amount over that should be declared and would be taxed when you hit JFK.  I just came back last week - so that is definitely the law.  Most people just take the extra bottle of vodka and do not declare it unless stopped and plead ignorance.

I brought 4 bottles of liquor back from Ukraine in October without any problems from either either Ukrainian or USA customs.  My bags were not searched in Amsterdama and I declared the liquor on my US Customs declaration.  (I cleared customs in Detroit.)

Hey John;

I just returned home from Russia 2 days ago and I brought 3 bottles of Vodka and 5 containers of Cavier with me and no one said a thing. I had each of them in my carry on so they wouldn't get broken and I had not trouble at all in Russia, Korea or the U.S.

Take care.
Dalton
