I received this email this morning (Wednesday 1:59 am) from another guy who is in this "Moscow Embassy" mess. Here it is:

"They opened yesterday.  My fiancee is in Moscow hoping to get rescheduled, and she was at the embassy.  Her interview was supposed to be on October 18. They have rescheduled her for Dec 18 !!!

According to my senator's office, they are only processing visas for
medical emergencies.  However, no two people give the same story, so it is hard to tell just what it is they are doing over there."

Unfortunately, we still don't know if they have begun fiancee visa interviews again.

Let's everyone involved continue to keep each other posted.

... in response to continuing saga of the Moscow Embassy, posted by JohnG on Oct 24, 2001

This message was just posted from someone named Jake:

"I called the Moscow embassy last night to find out when they would open the Embassy for Fiancee visas. I was told that they opened yesterday for Fiancee visas and that November interviews are proceeding as scheduled.

This has been the consistent line of the telephone people at Moscow, to my knowledge. Is anyone hearing anything different? If so, what are their sources of information?

I don't know about you, but I'm packing for Moscow."

Ahhh, wish I could go with you! Man, this sure is confusing- so many different stories from different sources. I know the telephone to the embassy seems like a 'rock-solid' source, but they've told me contradictory stuff in the past, so I don't take them for 100% anymore. If you do go over, please keep us posted.

Take care,

Ralph,

I think the situation over there is too shakey. You can fly there and then the embassy changes its mind again. That's too much money for me to lose.

I am going to have her handle the interview herself. There's no reason why she can't. I've express-mailed her all the paperwork she will need from me. I don't have a lot of money to spare, nor can I continually take time off from work. Under the unusual circumstances due to the war, I think the best thing for me to do is stay here and have her do the interview herself.

Here's hoping...

John

John,
I couldn't agree with you more. Given the current state of affairs, it makes no sense to fly over to Moscow just for the interview. I can't afford it right now either, and being there in person doesn't really offer any advantages. I am on a very similar track as you, having express mailed everything necessary to her. We worked through the documents together on the telephone and feel confident they are properly prepared. Besides, as I was reading in a helpful book, the interview is really her exclusive part of the deal and she needs to partake fully in that process to feel 'complete' in the overall picture. I believe in this, and do support her as much as possible from here- but also trust in her judgement and good sense to do well at the interview. She appreciates the fact I believe in her and our relationship benefits from that aspect even more. Sure, I'd love to be with her now, but the practical approach is to stay put and offer guidance and support from our home. The hardest thing right now is dealing with the 'extra' two months apart from the postponed interview...
Best of luck & keep us posted.

After waiting for 15 minutes I got through at 11:00 EST. Here's the deal. The embassy is still closed and probably will remain closed. HOWEVER, they are processing fiancee visas. The instructions were to go to the EAST gate, NOT the main entrance, on the day of your interview, and you will get the visa at the same time. Hope this helps.
