A few words about travel to EE; something people contemplating sucn travel often ask here.

There are many airlines that go to EE, including Scandinavian SAS, Finnair, Aeroflot and LOT Polish Airlines.

If you go through Expedia or a similar website, you will find LOT to be the cheapest, but it may not be the best option.

Airlines such as SAS and Finnair have published air fares much higher; but they sell block of seats at discount to "consolidators ";
who in turn sell to public through travel agents; these rates are NOT advertised and you can't find them on any search engine. Often these are the cheapest rates you can obtain.

For people bringing fiancee's to USA; round trip tickets are almost always cheaper than one-way tickets.

I will be happy to answer any questions.

British Air had good connections for me and I like those nice little TVs that are available for the passengers in tourist class.  I had a good slection of movies.  I don't know how many airlines have that.  Finnair didn't have them 2 years ago.

I personally fly USair. Each seat throughout the airbus has a plasma screen with multiple movies, tv programs and music types to choose from. The overall service is quite good. When I fly from Pittsburgh to Frankfurt (direct) I watch a few movies and before you know it I'm there. It is incredibly boring when you have just one or two screens for everyone not individual ones. I also definately recommend that you buy noise reduction headphones. Believe me they make all the difference in the world. You wouldn't believe how much noise all jet plains have until you have one of these that you turn on and off during the flight. They block out a good deal of the extraneous noise and you can actually listen to your program at a much reduced volume. Also once I get to Frankfurt I always take a shower for they have facilities there for that and when I finish the next leg of my trip I arrive fresh and clean.

But like oatmeal sez,,, if your going to Moscow, that's a cheap choice airline.

My favorite is the NWA/KLM shuffle.  Memphis, Detroit, Amersterdam, Kiev.  (I'd really like to have a stay over in Holland and check the place out).

What is worse than having you bags show up a day late broken and ripped?

Having your bags show up a day late and still beating you there by a day! Never again...

Going to Moscow, no problem (except for being consistantly 1-4 hours LATE.) Making a connection through SVO 1, not worth the hassles.

I'm with Wild Bill, KLM-NW-UA to Kyiv.

I haven't found anything cheaper for flying to or from Moscow and JFK NYC than Aeroflot, and they're pretty good in my book. The one-way fare I am using for my fiancee and her daughter to fly from Moscow to NY is cheaper than the round-trip ticket. Not by much, but cheaper.

Rags has used Aeroflot everytime he has gone to EE and from his reports I say that if you plan on going to Moscow then it might be okay but if you plan to transfer to Ukraine then it is definitely not worth the hassle.

Aeroflot allows smoking on their International flights, and as I have been told, they are the only airline to allow such smoking on International flights.

Aeroflot only permits smoking in the last few rows in the back. It's a big plane, a Boeng 767, so it shouldn't bother them.

Since June I have traveled to Russia twice on Aeroflot out of Seattle to see my fiancee. I always sit in 49D.  It is the last row in the back which allows smoking.  I don't smoke but the kitchen is right behind me and so is the bathroom

But I hear from airline knowledgeable people, that this air is merely circulated around on the plane, so everyone eventually gets it if the airline allows any smoking at all.

...airline people are wrong, they certainly aren't the pilots. The air in the cabin is constantly renewed.

If it was recirced, there would be dust, bacteria, and extremely low humidity (worse than it is now). Not to mention all that CO2 you folks exhale back there.
Besides, where do you think the fresh O2 has to come from?

I explained all this in a past post if you want to look for it.

Besides, a little smoke for a short time never killed anybody. It's a minor issue and they can just deal with it.

However, you are wrong in one respect.  Some people are allergic to cigarette smoke, and cannot 'Just deal with it.'

Aeroflot is a fine airline.
As I have noted, you will never find the cheaper fares on any of the search engines.
