Author Topic: Train service between Poland & Ukraine ?????  (Read 4542 times)

Interview date is November 9.  Then Monday we fly back to the ranch.
Normally I would fly to Kiev, take the train to Kherson, and do the reverse on the way back.  The only way I can figure out how to do it this time, because of the stopover in Warsaw, is to buy three round trip tickets to Warsaw ($602.90 each) and then deal with getting to Kherson.

If I fly to Kiev and then the three of us fly back from Kiev to Warsaw it's $304 per ticket.  I'm sure travelling by train would be cheaper but I've never crossed the border on a train.  I'm not concerned about crossing from Ukraine to Poland but I am concerned about me crossing from Poland into Ukraine.  I speak only English and Spanish.

Any advice?

Direct trains FROM Kiev : 7:48 am arrives Warsaw 10:27 pm ( 15 hrs 39 minutes travel time ) or 11:00 am from Kiev , arrives 5:50 am, next day ( travel time 19 hrs and 50 minutes ). Time difference Ukraine/Poland = 1 hr.  Costs , again , for Ukrainians may be cheapper , somewhere between $30 - $60 one way depending on which class you`re traveling John

There are two direct trains from Warsaw to Kiev. First leaving Warszawa Centralna ( main train station in Warsaw ) at 6:46 am arriving Kiev 11:50 pm ( travel time 16 hrs and 04 minutes ), second one leving same station in Warsaw at 9:43 pm arriving 18:22 pm next day ( travel time 19 hrs 39 minutes ). Be prepared for longer stops at the border due to track changing procedure ( FSU has broader trucks than the rest of Europe ). There are 1st and 2nd class cars as well as sleeping cars . Border guards as well as customs usually don`t speak english on both sides . As long as you have valid Ukrainian visa you should be O.K. Cab from the airport to the station in Warsaw shouldn`t cost you more than $20 . There are Cab companies reps at the airport in Warsaw ( called Radio Taxi ) . They offer  best rates . Lot , Polish airlines also flies directly to Kiev . RT starts around $200 per person ( check travelocity.com ). As for options in Kiev , ask your lady to arrange for a ride within Ukraine . She may have friends with cars. Let her negotiate ! There are always diffrent prices for foreigners and Ukrainians . Or , she can find out train timetable to Kherson from wherever within Ukraine. She would have to go to main station information booth . Don`t be taken for a "ride" . Buena suerte amigo   John

Thanks for your response to the abovementioned post. I am also interested in the round trip train service to Warsaw from Kiev and a return trip.  My fiancee is traveling by train to visit me in Iceland and will travel from Kiev to Warsaw, then take a plane to Iceland.  Do you have the schedules for travel from Kiev to Warsaw and the cost for such?  Thanks, Jim

Hi James,

Train 029  Kiev 7:48   Warsaw 23:07
Train 067  Kiev 11:00  Warsaw 5:50 next day

Both trains run daily. Unfortunately I can not help you with the cost. But I would say it should be around 100 - 150 Grv for a place in a 4 bed compartment.

Regards

Mick
