update
« on: September 01, 2016, 10:47:39 PM »
it's been almost 2 years...since Bear passed and the last time i was here. i just came by to see who else replied to my last post. thank you all. Howard, i'm gonna add Gerlie on facebook in a minute :D .

anyway, it has been an overwhelming (almost) 2yrs. i was in the middle of school (undergrad) when Bear passed. as a matter of fact, the week after it, was actually finals week for me but i survived that too and continued school the following spring. i interviewed with about 8 accounting firms for an audit internship, got 6 offers and chose 1. i guess they liked me enough to give me a full time offer, which i opted to start in january 2018 (i wanted to finish the CPA exam before starting full time). i graduated last may with my BBA in Accounting with a 4.0gpa. i probably shouldn't have included that 'cause it sounds like bragging but it's an achievement i know Bear is so proud of ;) . however, i am not done with school time yet 'cause to be CPA eligible in Texas, i need a few more classes to take. so, i am currently doing my masters to accomplish that. well, that and the fact that i got the PCAOB scholarship for this school year and a couple local ones. i'm graduating this may probably for the last time or at least in a really long time. ;D

ok enough about me. the cubs are doing well. AJ is a teenager now and i'm lucky enough to have such a sweet teenager. a few weeks after Bear passed, AJ came to me and asked where he could find a job. it still makes me cry to this day when i think about it. Aiden will be 11 in november and Aerell is 8. my boys have their days but i am so grateful to have these kids in my life, they truly are a blessing. all 3 are in the gifted/talented program at school and are making A's. i know Bear is super proud just as i am :D . they're also active in scouting through the church. AJ is currently a star scout; Aiden is a webelo scout and Aerell is a wolf. this year, they're in 3 different schools and i'm not happy about it :( . i plan to move them in a school where they can all be together once i start full time.

ok this is getting so long and i doubt people would wanna read it ;D . i just thought i'd make an update for all those who are interested since i couldn't keep up with the blog. enjoy the long weekend!

much love,

Honey

No, I was very interested in your post. You should be so proud of yourself and your kids. I am sure your late husband watches over all of you.

It's good to know you are doing alright. I can't tell you how much I take your story to heart and how often I think of your story as a motivation to myself and others to prepare our family for the inevitable.

Wow. Thanks for sharing that. Very inspiring. It is testament to what faith, determination, hard work and good parenting can accomplish, even under the most challenging circumstances. In so many cases like this, the children being so young but yet very aware of their Father and the loss, would've likely had a lot of problems growing up. You were somehow able to keep things together, while busily working on making a better for future for the family.

I have often said that while many great Filipinas defer to their husbands and let them lead, that if for whatever reasons the case might be, when things get rough, a true Filipina can step up and get things done that might amaze people who knew her before the challenge. My wife sometimes expresses worry, saying: "What would I do without you?" I explain how the bills are handled, insurance for this and that, titles, deeds etc. She still worries, still a bit in disbelief, but I tell her and I KNOW, that she'd not only perservere, but she'd learn and soon handle running the household better than I did.

While there are also many inspirational stories about individuals overcoming the odds in the Philippines, a woman, an immigrant, a widow with three children accomplishing so much in the USA, makes me aware again that if we really try, great things are still possible in the United States.

Honey---God bless your family and please come back---your story is good for all of us, everywhere!
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!
