Been Gone for a While
« on: March 19, 2015, 10:19:00 AM »
It's been quite a few years since I've been active on PL. It all started 11-12 years ago. I married a calena and we were married for 10 years. Unfortunately, it didn't last. But I am ready to get back on the horse (or colombiana, be that as it may). My question is are there any legitimate agencies left? Things have changed so much in the last 12 years. I don't recognize most of the agencies in business. I remember ACG, A Foreign Affair and a couple of others. Are they still legit? AFA seems like it is a bit of a scam now. Any thoughts on ColombianCupid?

Hi Littlebhuddha.   The agency in barranquilla called international - introductions is completely legit.  Many of the other places closed long ago, Latin encounters, cali vip, and the others.

Latin Encounters was where I met my wife. It's to bad. They were actually pretty good. I think her name was Margarita or something? I'm definitely going to check out Jamie's operation. He's had some pretty good reviews. I am planning on going to Medellin in August for the flower festival. Maybe I'll stop in Barranquilla. I've never been there. Hear it's nice. Thanks for the response.

Littlebhuddha,

Nice to see you back on the board.  Sorry to hear your marriage did not last.  Can you share any insights about what went wrong and offer any advice for guys who are married?  Also, did you ever make it to the Philippines last year and if so how did that trip go.

Things have changed over the last few years with the agencies.  I think the internet dating sites have put almost all of them out of business.  I went to Cali for the first time in 2007 and think the agencies were already starting to die out.  I used one agency in Cali to meet about eight women, but did better with women I met in person and online.  I also went to Medellin and meet several women there who I connected with first online.  I think the best way to approach things online is start writing a few weeks before you are leaving for Colombia.  I have not been online for a since 2011 when I met my wife online, but I always found a huge number of attractive ladies online.  The biggest problem is they will be scattered throughout Colombia. Another approached that has worked for some people here is going online and just starting chatting with some of the ladies.  If you find someone you really hit it off with, go and visit as soon as possible.

Good luck.

Never made it to the PI. I was using filipinacupid and just couldn't find enough acceptable legitimate ladies that I was willing to spend 20 hours on a plane and $5000 for. Besides I would prefer a Colombiana. I just didn't think they would want a man my age. I was wrong and I'm focusing Colombia only.
My marriage to my Colombian ex was one of the best decisions I've ever made. She was a wonderful wife and out of 10 years of marriage 8 were great. I think it fell apart because I just assumed that we would be married forever. I forgot that a marriage is a living, breathing thing that needs to be cared for and nurtured or it will wither and die. It wasn't entirely my fault but I will take 90% of the blame. She is still a very good friend. We still care about each other and wish each other love and happiness. She will make some man a good wife. I also think that with my new found wisdom I will make a great husband for some lucky Colombiana.
To those thinking of looking for a Colombian wife, go for it. When you find the right lady, you CAN be happy for the rest of your life if you you keep it watered.

Welcome back Buddha.  Agencies are a thing of the past.  Which is a shame because online dating is not very effective.  And the legitimate ladies that are online don't put much credence in it either.  Unless you are there in flesh in blood, it's just a pipe dream to them.  Best get on that plane and meet ladies in person.  Good luck, looking forward to hearing more from you.

I actually think the internet is a more effective and cheaper search tool than agencies if you know how to use it. Things have changed. If the internet isn't your thing, then FT is right on where to go.

'Internet killed the agency star'

It kind of seems like, to paraphrase: 'Internet killed the agency star'--but it was (boy, it doesn't seem THAT long ago) in 1979 there was a hit song: Video Killed the Radio Star" and now MTV is basically a non video channel more known for terrible, so called 'reality shows'.

Even with the likes of Sirius, Spotify and Pandora, radio, although perhaps more formula driven than ever, is still a major presence in most areas. My sons listen in to it, as well as to pay for subscription channels--but they don't want to see or hear a music CD.

That said, I think that Agencies will make a comeback, but that for now, their core business will be with guys with deep pockets who want prime, screened and selected women. Yes, agencies have always been for the guys with a bit more coin, but I think the average income is going up for those agency focused.

Internet will still factor in w/ the agency bound folks, therein with using things  like Whatsapp, Viber and Skype from smartphones etc.
