that's from that letting agency I told you about... wheelchair accessible bathroom plus a decent size utility room, well it just means more space ............ Mckinley Hill/Taguig a Global City is pretty nice, close to everything you need a city within a city kinda thing.. everything is close ---- avoid hotels, waste of money imo

If you're going to travel, you might as well go all in and for at least part of the time, rent a van for your wheelchair. I have done that when going on long trips--out into uncertain parts of the countryside, etc. Not sure how much the wheelchair weighs, (probably plenty) or if they have (probably) vans set up with lifts, but something worth looking into. On negotiation of rates, as with just about everything, try and have a Filipina inquire, as if you do, they'll often give a foreigner rate.
It's easy to lose track of money, as things for the most part are a lot cheaper. I'm usually frugal, but it kinda becomes like monopoly money, 1000 peso notes and all.

Even Pigglet, who like a good New Englander, throws nickels around like they're man hole covers,  ;D ;D ;D has expressed the same about spending money over there. But I bet that pretty Asawa (spouse) of his has changed his spending habits a bit! :D

the truth Robert is my wife spends even less money than i do

but when i am in the PI i can go through $100 a day plus my hotel room with no trouble

there are just soooo many things that i want to get done while there

on my next trip i plan to hire a couple of locals to build a nice set of steps going down to the sea shore

rite now you have to climb down over a bunch of roosts & rocks

someone could break a leg & it could be me

so that will be the 1st project i pay for when i arrive

this fall i have so send over a few thousand pesos

to pay to have a good stout chicken coop built
(something that will keep both 4 legged & 2 legged predators out)

i gave hatching eggs to a fella who had a place south of where my in-laws are

they are now laying so once a proper coop is in place

my in-laws can see what real American chickens look like

maybe they can make a few bucks off selling eggs/meat....?

we will see

Piglett,

What you say doesn't surprise me a bit--and I hope you know I was 'joshing' you. The things you do up east, while still helping out and planning further to help the family back home in the Philippines, while the two of you are (I think both of you--but even if just one of you) going to college and working, impress the heck out of me. The chickens--well, if any country proves it's true that it takes money to make money--it's the Philippines, and the right breed of chicken and a decent coop will make them more independent in the long run and save you money probably.

We look at it the same way, although maybe doing it in a little different way. We helped one Merchant Mariner bro in a law and another Bro in law to pay the blood sucking agencies that thrive in the Philippines, so one could get his first ship a few years ago and we helped pay the agencies to land another bro in law a machinist job with Hitachi in Japan.

As a result, they now are sending enough money home so that we don't have to send nearly as much to pay for the last sibling's university tuition (Ateneo U.) or for her parent's medical needs. More family chipping in now. And a couple siblings stay at our house there, making their economic needs less, while helping to keep our little house neat and safe.

Salute!

Rob

if my math is correct about $227.27 = p10,000 A MONTH

that is for a practical nurse who will put in 6 twelve hours shifts a week for you

you can make your own deal if those hours don't work well for you

say 3 weeks straight but you pay her for a full month

because she was willing to work straight through for you without a day off

i'm sure someone can be found to take care of your personal needs while there

the only catch is many times when you hire someone in the PI

you are required to provide their lunch

let us know what month you plan to go over there

someone on here probably knows a nurse over there who is between contracts

who would be glad to look after you while there

good luck
piglett

yup i too had to pay something like p15,000 for my youngest bro inlaw to get hired

at his 1st container ship job

but now he is working steady

so it's all good

I have 23 months left of school then Marily will retake her nursing classes

her current employer will help may for most of the tuition

we only pay to rent the books & gas for the car to go there & back

so it should all work out in the end

Piglett, It's always something over there. My sister in law graduated from a top university spring 2013, studied up, took her nursing national board exam in December, passed, becoming an official RN. Started going to the hospitals, applying for work.

So, you'd think like all the RNs who passed, having their names printed in all the newspapers and college transcripts in hand, she'd walk into a job, right?

No---it'll be sometime in July before the govt. can get it together to issue the official certification card that the best hospitals require before they hire you.

Even then, like she's doing now for a smaller Pediatric Hospital, she'd be working for free to get that first 'experience', buying her own scrubs, etc. She's basically paying them for the 'privilege' of working there, treating children, measuring drug doses for kids, where if you're off a decimal point or two on a dosage, it can mean life or death.

My Merchant Mariner Bro in law, with a 4 year degree from the Merchant Marine Academy, came home to his wife and new baby girl born when he was at sea, only to find the govt. is making him take (despite three years experience), more costly training and certification coursework.

No wonder so many people leave that nation---you try and better yourself and make a decent living and your own country tries to suck you down the drain.
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!
