Besides women, why did you move to S.America?
« on: May 10, 2014, 04:57:22 PM »
Besides the obvious (women and weather) why did you decide to move down south? It's not perfect, its a bit grimy, the infrastructure is behind and it's a bit corrupt. So made you ultimately decide it was for you?

The question is, why is this on the Asian forum?  :D
Nah, seriously I am curious too, sometimes it doesn't sound like it's quite worth it.

Weather? In all of my years on this forum, I can't remember a single guy who moved overseas for the weather.

But we did have a few who were looking for a country with no extradition treaty with the U.S.

What I've always appreciated most is the slower pace of life. Lots of resident gringos I've met SOTB have told me the same. I obviously don't get too much of that here in Rio but it's what I enjoy most about the Coast of Colombia and The Coffee Triangle. If all goes as planned I'm most definitely retiring there in a couple of more decades. People just don't take things too seriously though. A lot less self-induced stress. It can be a double edged sword at times. Whenever there's a timetable involved in getting something done you can throw it out the window; but even that you get use to. The produce is awesome. Not always glamorous like the fruits and vegetables in the U.S. that have been genetically altered to be so colorful so they sell better, but on average if it comes from a plant it taste much better here. I've run across the occasional worm or baby insect infestation after buying fruits from farmer's markets.  Reminding myself they wouldn't be there if the farmers here were using the cancer causing pesticides they use in the U.S. puts my mind at ease though. Coffee, rums and cigars as well...three things I really enjoy here. Each of the three have their own unique characteristics in every Latin American Country.

The women get old for any foreigner after they've been here long enough. It gets to a point where you just aren't blown away by their beauty anymore. I will admit that once in a while I see a woman so astonishingly beautiful she'll stop me in my tracks but it's rare. I was in a club last night with a good buddy of mine that has lived here for 16 years. He's from Charlotte. We were in a private booth having some drinks and talking about the NFL Draft. The place was full of hotties. It's the kind of club where you can always count on a couple of dozen 10's to be walking around but last night was exceptional to say the least. We were just hanging out though. A younger American guy that had been there a while comes up to us (he was pretty drunk) and ask, "WHAT ARE YOU GUYS, GAY?!! DO YOU SEE ALL THIS FINE TAIL IN HERE?!!!" We shook our heads, smirked and started talking about football again.

As I stated in another thread though, as soon as you go back to the US for a couple of weeks it will (at least for a while) rekindle your appreciation for how much better women take care of themselves here.

As for Benjio's statement lifted from above:

>>as soon as you go back to the US for a couple of weeks it will (at least for a while) rekindle your appreciation for how much better women take care of themselves here. <<

Hear hear, It's not just S. America. In the Philippines, even a lot of people with next to nothing go out of their way to look good, or at least 'better'. They care.

It might be a young woman who takes a T shirt and ties the bottom edge into a knot to show some (but not too much) curve. It might just be a gal with her only bandana, neatly folded and placed on her head, accenting her hair. Could be her clothes are so neat and clean that you'd be surprised she's never been able to find a job. How the hell, in cities steaming hot, filthy and reeking of trash, diesel and leaded gas fumes, can nurses and kids in school uniforms walking the streets manage to keep them well pressed and clean? Because they care.

Back here in the USA, we went to the mall today. Mother's day, not too long after church time, you might expect folks would've 'spiffed up' a bit. But no. So many overweight folks, women with fold over rolls of fat, wearing tank tops at that, along with bermuda shorts showing enough cellulite to make a cottage cheese factory proud. They say the drunker you get, the better they look, but I could be embalmed in alcohol and they'd still look ghastly to me.

Then there were their kids in tow, looking like junk food junkies, traces of the crap they'd eaten on their visages. Kids, barely teens--with poorly done tattoos that their parents either didn't care about or didn't have enough control to keep them from getting.

I don't know if it's the decline of civilization or what, but it sure isn't pretty.

That makes sense to me, when I was looking I was obsessed with eastern american guys because of their witty humor but also because it was easier to find one with a fashion sense, or at the very least with clean clothes that happened to match.

This. I would also add: lower cost of living, fun nightlife and... FOOD:

That said, Latin America isn't paradise and I am well aware of the negative sides as well (extremely high crime, certain cultural differences, etc.)

I don't know what the food on that plate is, but to me it kind of looks like a bunch of messy stuff just fell off a shelf and just happened to land on a plate! :D

Gavan, you must be one of the few guys who is interested in the food, most guys here say the food sucks and I remember plenty of comments on how their novias "think they can cook"

I might be one of those actually, everyone loves my cooking except W... except for some specific things that he loves and wants to eat on daily basis but I get tired of them. He loves tex-mex, just not normal mexican food, not fattening enough is my guess.

Yes, I love Latin American food, especially if it is picante! I prefer it to Belgian/European food.

What? He doesn't like real Mexican food?? Mexican and Peruvian are the best cuisines in Latin America!

I lived with a Belgian strawberry blonde beauty queen/computer engineer/jello wrestler in grad. school--I'm surprised we didn't get married, actually--our families really liked each other and we were red hot for each other.

She could cook a mean rabbit in red wine sauce, among other things. Taught me how to swear in Flemish too! That babe was one gorgeous, athletic, intellectual girl!

Gavan---It's been a longggg time, but I'll try not to be a klootzak and not say any, but (and again, it's been a while), but hof vir damme (it) comes to mind--heard that a good bit. Now if only I could remember all those "How can you tell a French ______ by?" jokes--boy, they were pretty rank and rude! Never could understand background for the bad jokes about each other between France and Belgium, even if I can find a lot of tart things to say about the French--(Vichy swine, etc.) ???

Klootzak LOL! Very nice... It's "godverdomme" (which means pretty much the same thing as the English "god da** it") not hof vir damme (although that is pretty close to how you pronounce it) ...

W does love picante but I can't tolerate it much, not used to it. So I do what my mother has done all her life, she cooks and then asks my father if he wants salsa or some chiles on the side when having mexican food.

Thankfully we both love things like lasagna and beef stir fry where picante is out of the picture completely.

This type of dish is also popular in the Philippines. Instead of ceviche, they call it kilawin or kinilaw.

I've had some versions so spicy it made my roids bleed... LOL!

I'm always a little wary of proper preparation, and the fish has to be absolutely fresh. Just in case any stray bacteria survive the preparation process, I always try to drink a lot of Tanduay Rum along with it, which tends to kill most living organisms.   ;D
