Checking In
« on: September 30, 2012, 04:50:09 PM »

I was wondering who is still alive out there. This place has been so slow.

Anyway, still breathing here. Or, in Tagalog... humihinga pa

Things here in San Diego are just fine. The Chargers won today and the Padres are winning (I think). The Falcons sure pulled one out of their arse today!

The weather here is beautiful. It's hot... but it's not a shvitz    :D

Any recent trip reports out there? Where's Heruaman?

Hello to all,
Things are a bit quiet here.  After a warm unusually dry summer here in the Pacific Northwest, autumn is here.  The maple tree in the backyard is slowly turning yellow to orange to red.  Ed is picking the last of the tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers and the greenbeans are all preserved and in the freezer.
Soon Ed will be fireing up the smoker and making is famous smoked salmon and turning the local smelt into tinapa.
The Son will be turning 28 in October which I cannot believe and is still living at home which I do not want to believe.
If all goes well Ed will be retireing from the State next year.  I am cutting down my hours at the hospital and slooowly downsizing to be empty nesters.
This past summer we have also been busy with the latest addition to our family. We are the "parents" to a Westie pup we bought in May.
I haven't posted too much lately as we have had a pretty active season.  It is good to hear from folks on the board.
Yours Judythekana

Swimmer's diarrhea?

I hope you didn’t take the little tike down to Imperial Beach and let him swallow a mouthful of that Tijuana sewage! YUK!

I was inside watching football and baseball most of the day. I’m about ready to head down to the local pub for a pitcher…

Hi Judy! It's good to hear from you.

It sounds like you guys are growing the same junk I am in the backyard. I had plenty of cucumbers, green beans, talong (Japanese Eggplant), and bell peppers. The tomatoes are still going strong here and the peppers are doing OK. Everything else is dead and gone.

I have been harvesting about a hundred Calamansi every other day. We can't eat them all but all the Filipinos we know want some. I planted one Calamansi tree in a container 3 years ago and it's producing like crazy.

Tinapa ng Smelt? Never tried it. Do you catch your own down at the beach? Smoked Salmon is awsome!

Wondering if Jeff S. got any Albacore this year... (?) I think he has a smoker too?

Nah, too warm this year - all the albacore bypassed California for Washington and Oregon. I did get a couple of bluefin early in the season and the offshore banks have been thick with dorado (mahi mahi) this year. A few yellowfin mixed in too along with the usual contingent of yellowtail.

Jeff, I don't blame the Albacore for bypassing California, what with the high taxes and corrupt politicians we have here.

And they expect us to vote for even higher taxes next month? Screw them!

Nice book! Good work...

Checking in.

I have been very busy but I still pop in to see what is happening.

The construction that was suppose to take place at work next spring is taking place now. The North American division had a huge budget as they were opening a few store & they said that they had enough money left in this years budget (including ours) for the expenses.

Instead of closing the store (like they would have done in the spring), they are closing sections of the store and doing the work at night. We all have to report to work as it is business as usual.

We am in the process of sending the Balikbayan Boxes - they are already packed. I will call LBC later today to see if they can do a pickup this weekend.  We decided to only send 4 boxes, we will hold on to the rest of the items for next year and send them to arrive around a week or so of our next visit to the PI.
If we were all forced to wear a warning label, what would yours say?

I still check in from time to time but have been too busy to post much over the last several months. My wife and son are in China right now visiting relatives for the Mid-Autumn Festival and will be there for about 4 more weeks. I wanted to join them but I just have too much going on right now at work to take a couple of weeks off - oh well, I will join them for another trip in May.

Check... that's a roger, vector :P

I'm ALIVE!

Gerlie and I will be married 8yrs in November, 4 days after our son turns 5!

Holy Mackeral, how time flies!

I come by from time to time, but the lack of juicy posts keeps me from feelin I NEED to chime in.  I'm still around if anybody needs me, but having an almost five year old means, I work for him :P  I am having the time of my life :D  Getting him in school was like applying for a mortgage, Christ it was a pain!  We have him settled in a Charter Montessori school not far from where I work and when he gets out he gets to spend the last hour of the day with daddy at work.  Sometimes its difficult, but he's getting used to it and gives me less greif every day :P

We have several Fil-Am couples that have become very close friends and see them on a regular basis.  We have developed quite a nice community together and have a great support system in place.  New couples come and go, but the core has remained the same for several years now.  We just have a few rules, be cool and don't bring any drama!  LOL  We even have a couple of liberals, so that makes current event conversations very passionate :P  Probably my closest friend of the group is an Obama lover and holds me responsible for every dumb thing Romney says.  It's all good natured, but I just don't understand how such a smart guy can be so wrong all the time :P  LOL

I hope you are all doing well and think of many of you often!  It would be great if some of the old timers chime in here.  I'd love to know how they are doing

Godspeed to you all!

Keep the Faith!

Hey Ray,
I am doing good here. I am off to the Philippines next week for a month.
And if I can shake the wife and her family, maybe I might go down to
               visit Junior in Butuan city.

I chatted with him back in June right after his wife arrived - haven't heard from him since.

I spoke on the phone with Piglett about a month ago and they're real happy. Marily has a job and no, it's NOT stripping wire or doing any kind of salvage work! She's learning how to drive and will probably take (and I bet pass) the nursing exam here in the states.

Most importantly, it sounds like they're very, very happy.

Like anybody who knows Piglett, we all wonder how she'll handle a a New England winter, but I'll bet you dollars to donuts she and the Pig will be just fine. Pigglet's got a lot more smarts--a lot more wits about him than you might think from reading his 'home spun' kind of posts. If we don't talk politics, we can usually keep our conversations under an hour--lol.

I think some folks here on P-L just grated on him, as they doled out the same ole sh!t they still dole and between being busy with his new 'domestic situation' and tired of P-L shenanigans, he just wrote off P-L. All the same, I wouldn't be totally surprised if he bops back in sometime with a few words. Those northern winters can get long and boring after a while, so who knows?

Wonder how the heck Dave H is? Anyone?

Seems to me that some of the old guard just have gotten tired of the same old infighting, the lack of laughs lately here on P-L and have this place 'on the shelf' for now....
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

Thanks, Robert!

I was afraid he had stopped posting because something went wrong. I'm happy to hear it was not the case!  :)

Dave H is having fun, living the good life in the Philippines, surrounded by his wife's family, and enjoying the slow pace of life, I connect with him on Facebook periodically.
