Earthquake in Visayas - is everyone's family safe?
« on: February 07, 2012, 06:38:03 AM »
6.9 earthquake his Visaya yesterday - Negros Occidental, Cebu, Bohol & the surrounding areas. There was almost 900 aftershocks.

I am currently watching the broadcast on TFC (The Filipino Channel).  They are broadcasting in Negros and a lot of damage was done to the infrastructures. Haven't heard much about Cebu & Bohol.

A tsunami alert was sounded and the people near the coast evacuated - it is now lifted.

Yep, I saw/read the various SunStar reports.

I was watching both GMATV & TFC for "live" coverage and they were mostly concentrating on Negros.  Maybe 24 Oras will have more coverage later as they gain access to some of the more remote areas. TFC was showing footage/coverage of the landslides & the recovery efforts.

Back in 1990, they had a a 7.9 quake in Luzon that killed about 2000 people--Luzon's Manila is now the most densely populated city on earth and with it being right on the 'pacific rim of fire' it's not a question if 'if' rather more like 'when' before another major quake hits. They don't build sturdy structures like the Japanese do either.

Hey guys I have a question, I'm chatting to really nice girl -we've been messaging each everyday for 5 weeks, she's from Cebu and just told me that she was hit pretty hard by the earthquake -I honestly thought that it was just very small quake but then looked up google news and read about all the dead.... and was show shocked ..... she isn't going to ask but she's a single mum. and had work problems of late is ok to offer her some money if she needs it? $50 maybe ...

Anyways I hope everyone who has anyone over in the Phillipines is ok...  my UK friends brother lives in Negros 11 months of the year, so I've tried to give her a ring and find out if he's ok? ... worrying times ahead.

well Kas many say sending money to a person that you have never met is a REALLY bad idea. there have been more than a few members here that money is like poison to the relationship.

have you ever met her?
how soon till you go there?

oh 1 more thing if she has a child there is bound to be a dad. if you intend to bring this lady & the child here at some point you are headed for a long tough journey.

good luck man

Your probably right, just gut instict type of thing -help someone who you feel needs help sorta thing- and nothing more .... that is why I asked really, cos I wasn't sure ..... as for 'money is like poison to a relationship' your right and that goes for any relationship... as for your last point, I havent thought about that really as there been no need to as yet imo :) ........... ohh I'm looking at going over there later this year with my friend to see her brother in Cebu/Negros, if there are any girls to meet in person whilst Im there then great - if not that is ok cos its not the main reason why I'd be going.
