Hotel Recommendations in Cali?
« on: October 27, 2011, 01:12:17 PM »
I'm heading to Cali next week and I'm looking for some hotel recommendations.  Jim, Dennis or others have any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

I stayed in the Las Vegas in Grenada.  I stayed on the top floor because of the road construction, and because of the road construction, they had special rates, 90 mill a night, including breakfast.  (month ago)

If you are going to stay for 5 - 10 days, you might be able to get a little apartment for about 45 bucks a night.  PM me for contact infor

Samuel

You can do expensive or reasonable depending on your budget. I personally like reasonable
If you ve got the budget for the Interncontinental or another expensive  5 star hotel....fine
The most famous pension in the city is HOTEL Pension Stein.....www.hotelsteincom.co
I don t know if you can get a room because its got an amazing  reputation..... I was lucky to get in there for three nights and thought it was an incredible value. As i recall I paid about 85,00 or 90,000 pesos a night and that was in November, 2010.  I don t know what the prices are now.....
For budget,,,,,I personally liked Pension del Oueste...5 minutes by cab from the Intercontiental l,  CALLE 6 OESTE NO. 1C-35, CALI 572,   I was there the last couple of days in June 20111, it was 58,300 pesos with breakfast....call it 32 or 33 USD, if  you go there, see if you can get room 3..
But if you use one of the on line  hotel booking services, you ll pay more.....
As Zon says another option is to rent a furnished studio or apartment for say between the equivalent of $35  to $40 US a night a night .if you re interested, PM me and I ll give you a contact. Zon and I may have the same  contact!

Hotel Don Jaime...right off Calle 16.

Cheapest single room is about $150,000 COP a night but it's well worth it. The hotel is in the middle of everything in Cali worth going to Cali for.

Dennis Y Benjio, you guys are great!!!!! Keep those recommendations comin' in. Budget or 'boutique' hotels doesn't matter to me. Both are acceptable for different reasons.
And piglett you don't really 'score' points with you GF if the first night in the city you 'stay' at her place, unless you have another venue planned afterwards.  ;)

Update!!!!!
Despegar.com seems to have the best online rates without the membership crap applied ) like booking on 'rack rate').
Por ejemplo:
Cali Intercontinental, standard room, same dates.
Despegar.com $104.
Agoda.com  $132
Priceline $130  (Sorry Bill Shatner, you loose). jajajajaja

The Hotel Spiwak right in Chipichape is elegant but very pricey for Colombia at over $250.000 for a single. There is another upscale hotel two blocks from Chipichape which I have stayed at that is cheaper. However I see their website is coy about pricing so you'd have to call them. I donĀ“t remember what I paid but it was under  $200.000:

.

Alternatively (and more fun) you could stayat the Hostal Casa Blanca about four blocks from Chipichape where their all out luxury suite (ie. AC and TV) runs $50.000 a night:

I stayed at Cali Plaza Hotel each time. Great location (at least for what I like). Close to cool restaurants in Granada, the action on Sexta. The owner is a gringo. The staff all spoke at least a little English. One time my flight into Cali was very late, I had not eaten all day, I went to go use the ATM machine and my card did not work. I told the owner about it, and he loaned me a like 200K COP. Nice service. The ladies liked the location too.

The owner's name is Claude. I think he is still there. There are cheaper places nearby like Hotel Jaime, but I continued to stay at Cali Plaza for the service.

Thanks gents for the suggestions.

The forum section on rentals was somewhat dated so it is nice to have some current listings.

I'm looking for reasonably priced lodging and have some good leads now.
