Hola amigos!
« on: January 07, 2011, 06:47:57 PM »
I am a total newbie and I am just taking all this in. I will try to contribute where I can but it may be limited.
In a forum of unique people I am unique here. I live in Australia and all the discussions and stuff I have found on the web is tailored to North Americans. I'll explain why that matters later. First a little about me.

I have always been fascinated by South America. It is my life time dream to travel to every country in South America. I like to learn about every aspect of the whole continent. In the last year Colombia has become my new favourite country to learn about. Mostly because of the people. However that said I have never been to South America.

I have basic Spanish. I can read Spanish. Although I still need a dictionary because my vocabularly is limited. I can write basic Spanish. Listening is very difficult for me. Speaking more than a few sentances for me is painfully slow. In other words I have some way to go before I can have a proper conversation. I am learning more all the time. I have a private tutor. Una Colombiana. I love it how the Colombians speak so clearly.

I can dance a little salsa. I need a lot more practice but I can dance more than just the basic steps. It's fun to learn.

In the last year I have met some Colombianas living here.  :o They are so warm, affectionate, happy and positive!! It seems like they natuarally have the inner qualities that I am looking for in a life partner.

I have had some contact on the internet with some Colombianas and I will tell you about that later. I still haven't been there so I believe that the reality is I still know next to nothing.

So that is a quick summary of the relevant points.
I have a Colombiana wanting to talk with me on Skype now so I will wrap this up.

Cuidate,

VMan.

Hopefully we can get more Aussies on here (maybe you could help)  so it's not so N American focused. Being from here, I really didn't notice--it all seemed quite normal to me!

Have to give you credit--it's quite a long trip from Oz to S. America, not quite as long as long as most of the USA/Canada trips to Asia, but it definitely shows your interest is piqued.

I want see Australia some time--I've never met anyone who didn't have good things to say about the people and nation as a whole, after visiting.

Seems to me from  the outside looking out, there's quite a few Asians, Filipinos in particular, in Australia, but I personally know a couple Filipinas who moved there and am relying on their reports back and what else I basically see on-line. So again, your interest in S. America, Colombia seems real and as if it has been for a long time. Seeing every nation there is a tall order, but it'd be awesome. A guy I know who played pro base ball and even has World Series ring to show for it, puts it nicely on autographs he gives the kids--"Dream BIG"

Regardless of Australia or USA, etc, P-L can give us all some insights as to what guys experience there, how they 'see' the culture and ways there, things to do (learn Spanish) and not do (be wimpy) etc.

Anyway V_Man--welcome, it's great to get to know people from different countries here and everywhere. We can all learn from each other!
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

Hi VMan, welcome, I am a newbie too and have very limited info to contribute at this point as well, I am taking it all in too.  I will become more active after my first trip when I can speak from experience.  I had a good Aussie friend when I lived in Mexico, I loved learning the Aussie slang from him, talking about geopolitics and philosophy and partying with him, good times.  Take care and best hopes for the new year!
So let mercy come and wash away, what I've done

Muchas gracias amigos!

With regard to Filipinas - yes they are here. I only know one or two personally. They and their husbands seem happy to me. Everyone here says Filipinas are loyal and faithful. A good mate tells me I should look for a wife there. I have been to the Philippines many years ago. There are many contrasts in that country. You could say two completely opposite things about the Philippines and they would both be true.

However I really wanted to talk about South America and Colombia in particular.

With regards to Australians. To people from the USA we must seem like Canadians with a funny accent. I.e. not much different. Really in the scheme of things we are not much different. However the logistics of getting to South America is another matter entirely.

Thank you for your welcome.

Vman.

True that, but we Canadians know better than that :)

Cool V-Man, my 2 roommates in Mex were from Canada, they were chill. They loved all sports that had a board involved and they said EHHH after everything, LOL! They got a kick when my country accent came out when drinking, LOL. Yeah, Canadians, Britts and Aussies are similar to me when compared to English speaking people from the US, different vibe and world-view.

Vman,

Welcome to P-L.

With your basic Spanish you are off to a good start!

Good luck!

Hola amigos!

Well another Norteamericano has decided to give up the ghost and emigrate south. Am planning to retire in 18months and have found this forum board a great source of insight already.

Divorced? You bet.
Tired of the feminazis in the EE.UU. that have taken over ALL aspects of culture, law, and interpersonal relationships? Absolutely.
Granted Latin countries are not perfect, but the positive culture change I think makes up for the flaws in most issues one would have in choosing a place to emigrate. Especially when it comes to issues concerning male roles and family law, not just culture. Besides my children from the 'ex' are grown and on their own.

Am I going to 'lead' in next relationship with a woman? Absolutely. And the first ultimatum out of her mouth will find me out the door before the echo of her words cease to reverberate in the air.

Argentina? A possible choice
Peru? Another good choice
Greater Colombia countries? Also in consideration.
