maybe they are just trying to play the billy bad @ss role ??

how well equipped is the north?

how about the south?

we have 28k guys there, will we get pulled into it too?

will china give them arms like the 1ST time ?

might they send troops ?

I myself think that china would rather trade with us than fight us.....but i could be off the mark here.

I think N. Korea always tries to be the "playground bully" in that area, and will continue to do so until they get a serious "punch in the nose" and knocked on their collective butts! I'm referring to the ruling party, as they seem to be unaffected by the sanctions and are either oblivious or truly don't give a damn about their own people, who are suffering from the sanctions.

I have my own theories how to "bloody their noses", but won't print them here, thank you.  ;)  I'm NOT condoning another war!
Your reality, sir, is lies and balderdash and I'm delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever.

My understanding is that millions of N. Koreans have starved to death in the last few years. WTF???

I guess the south is rather "salty" & are all fired up & ready to go kick some @ss if there is anymore trouble.

The south is said to be more equipped & advance than the north. The advantage that the north have over the south is that the north supposingly have about 12 nuclear bombs & the south have 0.

The North Korean 'govt' is willing to let millions of it's own citizens starve while they either outright refuse available humanitarian aid (food, medicine, etc) from countries they're not fond of and then there are also plenty of other countries that just don't want anything to do with their nutzoid regime.

Meanwhile, as their people starve, the military is well fed, trained and armed to the teeth and lead by Kim Jong-il, who is generally seen as a very weird, mentally unstable guy with more quirks than Norman Bates. His health has been poor for some time and he has apparently chosen one of his more favorite younger sons as his successor and surprisingly, appointed a daughter in a powerful political position.

I wasn't around back then, but I have heard tales of North Korean's fanatical attitude in waging war back during the Korean War, back in the 1950's. The N. Koreans, joined by a large number of Chinese troops back then, had no qualms about sending hordes of men, in wave after wave of assaults against US and what we today call 'South' Korean military forces.

They would send men in the worst imaginable winter weather, charging without adequate (if any) footwear or clothing, armed with sticks and other primitive weapons, against our tanks and machine guns. In some instances, their numbers were so great that we would run out of ammunition and succumb to their barbaric hordes. Atrocities were well documented.

It is arguable that if then President Harry Truman had let Douglas MacArthur carry on instead of basically firing him, this whole situation would be different today. I suppose the same could be said if the US Govt, at the end of WWII had let General George Patton march on and seize Moscow and in doing so, gain control of Russia, as he dearly wanted to do, but they didn't go along with that either, quite obviously.

Now of course, the N. Korean military is well fed, clothed and armed. They cannot count on China as they did in the past to support them. They do have a nuclear arsenal that is basically their only bargaining chip, because they really don't have anything else economically that anyone else is really interested in. They are basically a rogue nation, led by a nutty family and they will negotiate and posture and claim to make concession after concession, only to renege on the agreements they've signed.

It appears that even China has grown tired of the N. Koreans boorishness and childish demeanor, but although the western nations have asked repeatedly for China to intervene meaningfully and although China is probably their only genuinely valuable 'friend'--China basically refuses to intervene seriously and actually provides foodstuffs and other supports that enable the craziness to carry on.

I do not think N. Korea will risk a full scale war against S. Korea and even if they did, I think only then would China step in and put an end to it, but I wouldn't be too surprised if this 'situation' escalates. Dozens of S. Korean Navy sailors were recently killed when their ship was sunk and this appears to be the work of N. Korea, but none of this is new.

While again--I don't think we're going to see a major war come out of this any time soon, I could be wrong, because it is a pretty crazy family that is basically running this desperate nation.
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

Maybe China is waiting for "something" to happen. Then send in their troops to "help" & then do a complete takeover of the North (similar to what the USA did in Iraq - it was their country but we did control t at one time). Then the South & the USA would have to deal with China instead of the North.

I am just looking at all the possibilities & thinking the other way. ;)

The problem in the past has been that countries like North Korea were backed by China or Russia.I don't think that is the case now. While the North does have nuclear capabilities the South is backed by the US.South Korea is quite developed much more than the North.I didn't realize the technology they had until I visited there a couple of years ago.

I think that all this saber rattling is just the new North Korean leader trying to be taken seriously.

Don't even get me started on Koreans (North or South)...South Koreans are a real problem in the Philippines! They (especially the men) don't seem to be very nice people back home either, IMHO! And I have not even started talking about the stinking commies in the North yet!
