New guy, considering Colombia or possibly Honduras
« on: April 23, 2010, 02:54:58 AM »
Hey Everyone,

I am new to this board and considering a trip to Colombia (or maybe Honduras) within the next few months.  I have looked at most of the Colombian marriage agency websites and I also found a website based out of Honduras called amorsi.com.  At this point I am trying to decide which country, city to visit and whether I need to use a marriage agency.

Some background info about me--I am 36 years old, speak some spanish, and have visited LatinAmerica before.

I was with a marriage agency a couple years ago (based out of Costa Rica), and although I did not have much success then,  I am hopeful that I can find that special woman now.  I have read quite a few trip reports and Im considering joining an agency again.

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself, and I hope to be starting a few more threads soon...

Welcome, padawan.  There's lots of guys here with years of experience, both good and bad, who can help guide you on your path.  Good luck in your quest!

P.S.  Arguments here can get quite intense.  Don't take it too personally.

Amorsi is a legit business and all. Actually I like the advertising in newspaper service they offer. But SAP and TGU are for the ummm experienced traveler.

If you've been to Colombia and elsewhere before and want to try it go for it. But if not I'd fly into SAP, hit the luxury bus line (or pay for private transport) and head to La Ceiba. The bus will cost around $10 and private transport more like $100. Private transport is a lot faster though.

Hah, this prompted me to take another look at their site.

If I was interested in a single mom to take back to the states I would probably be packing my bags right now to meet this chick: http://www.amorsi.com/mail-order-brides.asp?Id=11050
Good body, but that face, wow. I mean, for me, that face is off the charts when it comes to beauty.

If your experience is high mileage agency chicas from Colombia your experience with Honduran women might be a lot different.

I am considering a trip to Honduras for a variety of reasons--first of all I did check out the amorsi website and there are definitely quite a few attractive women there.  I am looking for a place with unspoiled women and after reading some of the comments here about the agency culture in Colombia I'm not entirely sure that Colombia is the place for me.

After reading Quixote's trip report ( and the responses to the report) it seems to me that a good, honest and unspoiled woman would be hard to find in Colombia.  Its not that Ive ruled out a trip to Colombia, I'm just not sure if it should be at the top of my list right now.

 Jedimaster,

Regardless of where you go in Latin America, you have to experience it firsthand and do actual leg work. No country is 'unspoiled', perhaps less-traveled/visited but
unspoiled-no. Quixote had some bad experiences, but you have to know what type of man you are and know what you are able to tolerate and until you realize this
you are not 100% ready for the other Americas.

From what I understand, Honduras sounds very nice having some beautiful women and beaches. But you are going to find good women and bad women anywhere,
so knowing this in advance, it rests solely on you as the man that you need to realize this and do what is neccesary to not get played.

Good luck to you wherever you decide to venture! 8)

Pivery,

I appreciate your response to my last post.  Once I made that post, I realized that using the word "spoiled" was not a good choice of words on my part.  It would have been better had I said that I want to travel to a place "less visited" as you put it.  The way that I used the word "spoiled" one could interpret it to mean that I am looking for a place without bad women--clearly not a realistic expectation.

I agree with what you stated-- one is going to find good and bad women anywhere.

 Jedimaster,

It's good to have you aboard here and I hope wherever you decide to go you find what you and everyone else here is/was looking for...
The only problem you have is which direction to go and it's not a very easy decision to come by. There are men here that have found their
women in Asia, South America and Central America as well, so it really depends on where you feel most comfortable and where the women are
more in tune with what you desire in a companion. There is no right or wrong place only good and bad women...

However, it may not need to be only one country. But this of course depends on how deep your pockets are and how you are for time to travel
and getting to know the different cultures of the countries/cities. Everyone here will have their personal picks for where to go, but in the
end it does not matter where I went or anyone else for that matter. It is where YOU wish to find your mate, not where I found mine.
I would be nice if there was a map that showed where to go and where to keep away from, but there is not. You have to experience the good and
the bad yourself. As most men here wanted a woman as wholesome and uncorrupted as possible, this is understandable and definitely achievable.

So go through the old posts and trip reports here, and ask questions if there is something you feel someone here can answer for you.

Best of luck!

Pivery

Aright, I'm not hating at all as I married a girl from Honduras myself. I wouldn't base too much off of one trip report. Sometimes bad trip reports happen because the guy isn't right for the country... it can just be a bad match. I've been to Colombia and dated fine women from many walks of life... very few of which where listed with an agency or online personals.

For the liberal feminist guy who cried himself to sleep over how rough it is in Colombia (from another thread)....well he hasn't seen [snip]. I'm just saying the average person is dirty poor in Honduras. The average household income per year is like US $3,000. It is a country were almost everyone struggles with a tiny amount of weathly individuals. The major cities are really rough.

Go read about how safe Woody felt on his trip. He wouldn't say that about San Pedro Sula. Nope, even that guy would get the chills. Trust me on this... if you are going to Honduras... head to La Ceiba.

Well, that is good to know. I wouldn't judge an entire country by one city anyways. I would really hate it if someone drew the conclusion that the US is unsafe after only visiting Detroit. Honduras is on my 2011 trip list anyways.

I think tha Quixote's problem is that he went for the stereotypical Costeña/Caleña and, predictably, got burned.

She's a babe, no doubt about it, but at 21 she's already got a kid and her occupation is "student". Good luck with this Latin Eliza Doolittle all you would-be Henry Higginses.

Give her the benefit of doubt.........maybe she likes Broadway musicals and wants to live close enough to see one from time to time.

That's hilarious. Yeah, I can tell she's a big fan of Idina Menzel, Kristen Chenoweth, Jonathan Groff et al.

Of course, why didn't I think of that, I'm sure she can't wait to see the lastest musicals on broadway, How narrow minded of me!!!!
