Well I joined pen pals planet, and paid for a year.  I went on the site looking for women in Asia, and now I'm talking to American women.  Ironic I suppose, I'll probably pay for the filipina heart one tonight and try.
You joined an American based  site (that what Pen pal planets is) - so yes you will will be talking to a lot of AW. If you want to talk to Asian women - you go to a site where they are.
If we were all forced to wear a warning label, what would yours say?

It won't be the first buck you flush down the toilet in this process, let me tell ya.

Does your branch of the service have bases in the Far East?  Two things I'd look in to if I were in your position: getting transferred to a station anywhere in the Far East, and Space Available flights to the Far East.  The reason I'm mentioning this is, I got a former English teacher coworker gal I knew in Japan who married an Air Force guy, and they are now stationed in Okinawa (lucky bastards). And they use Space Available to vacation around the Pacific when her husband has the time off. So I'm wondering if that's something available to you.

Space Available, anyone in the military can do that, it has a lot of non-guarantees, but it can be worth it.  I really dont have the option anymore of transferring, in 2 months I am out of the military.  As for your friend, I'd be concerned they're about to shut Okinawa down, and open up a base in Guam, and a lot of have already move to california.  But thanks for the input!

Yeah...that sounds like the Philippines!  ;D

It would be great to meet some friends first...my son has met lots of Filipinos in the Navy with sisters.  ::)

Well even though I'm using an American site, I've found some non-American women.  So far no scammers, we shall see.

If you're worrying about $20 or whatever for a dating site subscription wait 'til you start pricing out the first trip...ouch. I'm pretty damn cheap and you have to get over a hurdle to the point where you just say f*** it and fork over the dough. The first time my mind was sort of blank with shock (add up the costs of passport, chinese visa for me, shots, plane ticket, vacation time, ouch....).

Are they booting you out?  'Cuz let me tell ya, if you don't have a good job lined up for when you get out, and by good I mean at least $20/hr +benefits, you'll find this whole process pretty difficult because of costs involved.  I see from your other posts that you are Marine Corps.  If they are asking you to re-up, if I were you I'd consider it IF and ONLY IF I could be guaranteed a posting at Iwakuni.  By Japanese standards, it's considered a rural town of only 100,000 people, about half an hour from the big city of Hiroshima, situated on the island-dotted Seto Inland Sea, backed by lush green mountains.  There you can meet nice J-girls or, if you are still solely focused on Filipinas, you are just a 1700 mile flight away as opposed to a 7500+ mile flight from the U.S. west coast.

Somewhere in the Filipines, I dont remember the exact cities.  Like one girl said she couldnt talk to me today, because of a black out?  because she lives in a province? The rest seemed like cities that I have seen people talk about on here.

Well I know that all that stuff will add up much quicker and cost a lot more.  I just don't want to waste 20 bucks, on a bunch of sites that lead me to no one.

No, I have done my time honorably, just my 4 year contract is about to be up.  Well I dont have anything lined up, just hoping to get a government job.  If it I fail miserably, I could always come back in.  Thats not a problem.  Its hard to get a guarantee of where you get stationed, but if its put in the contract it would work.  Its also a matter of needing someone there, that place might be hard to get posted at.  Sounds like it would work well for looking for a foreign bride though.  I've heard they are really cracking down on military in Japan though, so it might not be a good place anymore.

You probably know this better than me, but if you were to re up and if you're in the Army, I wouldn't put a lot of trust in their promise of a certain location contingent on you re enlisting.

We had wonderful neighbors (He's a Seargent with as I recall, about 15 years in) who bought the house next store and added marble floors throughout, chair moldings, granite counter tops, on and on. They were promised they could stay right here if he resigned.

With their lovely house, their two kids in a great school they could walk to, their home not far from the ocean or to the malls, they were delighted--the wife even had a nice job here.

Within two months, the Army had them packed and relocated to Fort Rucker, Alabama. A lot of Black Hawk pilots here have told me similar stories about being moved, much to their surprise.
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

I can tell you that your $20 will bring you more ladies than you can handle with filipinaheart. That is where I met my girl & many other members here have met great ladies there too.

They can promise you the world, but if it is not in clear, black and white, unambiguous text that you are re-enlisting for station of choice with no conditional statements, good luck.

I go on my ETS/transitional leave(60 days) at the end of June, I'll be back in Colombia for July/August. If I haven't found an Afghanistan/Iraq job that I want by the end of August(HIGHLY unlikely, in fact, improbable), I'll be spending a long time in Medellin, drawing my GI Bill and going to college full time(EAFIT's Masters in International Business is VA approved and English language centric).

I know that it will not come down to this, but I am prepared for this contingency. In fact, I am setting everything up so that my worst case scenario is to be out of work for three contiguous years while going to college fulltime in Colombia. I have the needed funds and am making all the needed preparations. This is with counting on getting $0 from VA for disability. I'm guessing that I will get somewhere around $800-$1300 a month from VA, I'll find out late May/early June. Plan for the worst(is this really a bad situation?), hope for the best.
