Spirit Airlines to charge fee for carry-on bag

As of today, Spirit Airlines will start charging for carry-on luggage. So now they will charging you for both checked & carry-on.

Yea I'm done driving to chicago to fly Spirit. When we fly back to San Pedro Sula we'll just have to bite the bullet. Oh well...

I don't know what Spirit Airlines is thinking. It looks like a real loser of a policy in terms of public relations. I had used them many times in the past because they beat other airlines' prices. I put up with their uncomfortable seats and no in flight meals, to mention just two drawbacks. Last trip to Peru I flew Taca and enjoyed better service.
The online search engines should turn up some competitive fares, and if you're using Spirit factor in the baggage fee and do the math.

Wow, that sucks, but I'm not surprised.  Many people are really starting to abuse the carry-on luggage thing, bringing big bags, plus a large "laptop" bag.  This is either in addition to their checked bag(s), or instead of.  Either way, on almost every Spirit flight I've been on the overhead bins are completely full and several carry-on's end up being checked.

This is what happens when people start to abuse things, and Spirit likely won't be the first or only low budget airline to do this.

I'll continue to fly with them until they are not the lowest price option that I can find anymore ... until then ... I guess I'll be paying a little more ... :-(
