a chica perspective on the earthquake
« on: January 19, 2010, 11:55:28 AM »
My sweetie understands a disaster when she's seen one (it helps when you've already survived one). Her comments are as follows...

the americans are doing 10 times more than everyone else

everyone talks down about the americans until they are begging for them to come to their aid

if the buildings and structures would have been up to 1st world code 5000 people would have died instead of 200,000.

finally... it is a moral obligation to help those that are starving, thirsty, and in dire need of rescuing and medical attention... but once the cameras leave nobody gives a [snip].

yea thats right... opinionated little girl.  ;D

Hm, I mentioned to the Taiwanese girl that people talk [snip] about us but we're always the ones who help out in crises....and she said Americans are always self-centered and think they're the only great country in the world...and during the earthquake in China all the Asian countries pitched in to help despite their differences.

How about a French perspective:

"US accused of 'occupying' Haiti as troops flood in
France accused the US of "occupying" Haiti on Monday as thousands of American troops flooded into the country to take charge of aid efforts and security."

'The French minister in charge of humanitarian relief called on the UN to "clarify" the American role amid claims the military build up was hampering aid efforts.

Alain Joyandet admitted he had been involved in a scuffle with a US commander in the airport's control tower over the flight plan for a French evacuation flight."

"a French evacuation flight."

Yep...that sure sounds like the FRENCHIES... "Let's run away fast!!!"

A free French lesson:

I can remember a disaster some years back in Latin America our FEMA USAR (Urban Search And Rescue) Team was on. Some French "rescuers" were also there. But it seemed most of their time was spent taking "whine" and cheese breaks. Their equipment got little use and they refused to loan it to people willing to actually work! They said that it was to "high tech and sophisticated "(shovels, pry bars, etc.) for others to use.

"The French minister in charge of humanitarian relief"

Umm... this guy is a nobody.

"a French evacuation flight."

Umm... we evacuated our own too.

This is just a low level on the ground verbal scuffle in a control tower that got reported.

The reaction I'm reading in this thread would suggest it was Sarkozy that made the remarks. This is just a low level guy acting a fool.

Make fun of the French all you want... but when you go to kiss your wife you take your cue from them. Now if only they'd watch a Right Guard commercial... everyone would be happy.

No, not the only great country, just THE GREATEST country.   :P

So the People's Republic of China donated $1M + another $4.41M in humanitarian aid.

The Republic of China pledged $5M + 200 metric tons of rice.

BFD!

The USA will likely end up providing 100 times as much as either China or Taiwan, the cheap self-centered bastards…  ;D

Note for example that poor, tiny Equatorial Guinea pledged $2M in relief aid to Haiti.

Try this: Go to Google and search 'French military victories' and hit 'I'm Feeling Lucky' instead of 'Search'

It is a given that the USA takes crap no matter what it does, even during humanitarian efforts.  It could eventually get to the point where much of the citizenry here would be happy to just let the world fend for itself.  I have a hard time making that leap, when I see children without parents and old people in need of medical attention.

Like it or not, for better or worse, the USA is percieved as being 'number one' in a lot of ways and places. Anybody, anything pegged at 'number one' is bound to to take a lot of criticism, even if just out of jealousy.

The only thing I learned from the French is that they are a bunch of "douch" bags...I believe that is a French word. The French didn't invent "French fries" or the "French Kiss!"

I have seen the French operate first hand at disasters and they are in fact a big DISASTER!

My son's huge US Navy hospital ship is already in Haiti providing advanced medical care to the populous. What are the F'ing French doing...probably waiting for their croissants to arrive! No wonder they are so pissed! They are already talking about making Haiti a French protectorate...after the US gets the situation under control and rebuilds everything.

If Taiwan is so great, maybe the US should stop sending them arms and watch China swallow them up in a second! The present day rulers of Taiwan are from mainland China anyway and not really Taiwanese. They have only been "Taiwanese" for about 60 years...through force.

In 1949, China was embroiled in civil war. Driven from China by the Communists, the KMT set up government in Taipei, establishing martial law and ruling with a hand every bit as harsh as the Japanese before. The Taiwanese people, having never accepted subjugation, continued to resist outside control; debate over the rightful status of Taiwan continues to this day."

Yes--if you look at various nations GNP and what they're doing for Haiti, it's pretty disgusting.

Does Taiwan really think  that when mainland China finally makes the move to take them over that the USA is going to send the 7th Fleet in to save their asses? We can pay a bit more for a while and eventually get our semi conducters and computer memory from several other places......

Well, mainland China has much to lose financially if they make a move against Taiwan now.  They'll probably wait till an Iranian freighter en route to Cuba strays off course and launches an EMP device over the U.S., effectively killing the U.S. economy, thus giving China nothing to lose by making a play for Taiwan and any other territory they have an eye on.  If Taiwan had any smarts, they'd have their own secret nuke program going on NOW.

Hmm ---I'd heard that last time the Chinese fought us in Korea, they sent wave after wave of inadequately dressed troops in freeezing conditions, using sticks for weapons against our machine guns--until we ran out of bullets and they over took our postions.

If this is their army and that happens again, I'm volunteering!
