First trip to Colombia - Cali in 7 days
« on: August 02, 2008, 03:47:52 PM »
I am excited to explore Colombia next week.

I have taken some of the advise and found agencies web sites in Colombia.  But since I really am not a wife hunter (this could change after my trip:) , I was waiting on a good reason to go.

Yesterday I received an invitation from a possible business associate.  I have recently met this guy through a friend of a friend.  This guy is very established in international matchmaking  and travel.  He is either buying, or starting a marriage agency.  I will find out more no doubt.

Anyway ... Cali is the target.

I would like to see as much as possible.  I would like to take the proper precautions too.  So, please give me your two cents.  I don't have much time to plan.  I will only be there for 5 days.  But if I like it as much as I hope, I will visit again soon.

rivardco ,

I would copy and paste this thread into the General Latin section and make a new thread there.. You will get a lot more response there as many guys don't check here very often..

Rivardco,
If you have a friend who is starting a marriage agency then you shouldn't have a problem setting up dates.  You use the Cupid sites, don't you?  Why not do a search of Colombia and put in the state for Cali, Valle de Cauca in your search.... then contact any appealing women and let them know when you'll be in town.

I am not going on a date-a-thon.  And I will only be there for 5 days.

I imagine that Saturday and Sunday are weekend days where I could see, and be exposed to normal people in social situations.  Where are the safe hot spots in Cali that I could visit?

My Spanish is finally at a beginner level.  And I gather I will have a security / guide chaperon. (is that necessary?)

In the past, I have asked for recommendations of cities and the overwhelming advise was Bogota and Medellen.  Obviously, Cali is neither ... but it is a start.

Unicentro Shopping Mall in the South and Chipichapi Shopping Mall in the North is great to watch the ladies. Also both locations of Casa De Cervezas, One in the south and one in the north in Juanambu upscale barrio. Me personaly, I never liked the Avienida Sexta section too much. Lots of trashy bars, drug pushers, ect.It has been 3 years since I have been to Cali, so I am sure a lot has changed, but those places are still there.

Thanks for the heads up, Kiltboy. I appreciate it.

I have done just a little research on Cali ... there are no significant universities (I think).  What are the chances of finding women who speak English and have an education?

Thank you for the continued dialouge.

I don't think a security guard is necessary. I see little harm in having someone helping you find things to do and places to go, although it can impede upon your privacy.  There is a little waterpark in Cali which can be a fun place to take a woman.

They exist...but finding this small approachable minority of women in only five days will be almost impossible. They dont exist in the agency scene there.

If thats what your interested in....Bogota is a much better bet.

There is this guy named Walter who I met before. he is a giude/lady giude that speaks perfect english because he lived in the states before. He will take you to the Univercity there, and yes there is a large one, and can help you in those aspects. There are English Speaking women  in Cali just like every latin city, the agencies use them a lot. Most likely you are going to find them at the univercity. maybe somebody here knows how to get in touch with Walter. he had a small agency at one time, but again, I met him with a buddy and we all just talked a while. In general, the south od cali is the newer part and where the higher society lives VS the north, Avoid the central part of cali at all costs. Very seedy.

No problemo!  The central cuidad will not see my asssss.

Cali was not necessarily my choice.  Rather it is my opportunity.  I understand the women are exceptionally beautiful in this city (we will see)

I would like to get a taste of Colombia and what it has to offer, however in this trip.  I should be able to make progress on that simple score, verdad? I have just made my 5 day trip a 6 day trip.  Still, far too short - no es significa.

I thank Fathertime for the Water Park Idea.  I will go there next Sunday.  That is what I am looking for, a safe and natural place to observe.

Rivardco

IMHO what Colombia has to offer and why I am moving to Bogota in early  September is:

1.  A more "tranquil" way of life then the US
2, Very attractive to "spectacularly stinking gorgeous, drop dead beautiful" women
3. spectacular flora
4 Some big cities and towns, each with unique histories, cultures and traditions
5. many smaller pueblos
6. A nation in transition to a democracy with hope expressed by much of the citizenry
7. fabuous music
8, A varied topography and geography
9. An attractive environment for shrewd investment

In 6 days, you will see a little of what Cali has to offer, but it's not representative of Colombia and that's the point, there isn't any place representative  of Colombia, its a gorgeous quilt...

but there may be one constant!

las mujeres, siempre las mujeres!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have a friend that is buying or opening up an agency, I hope that he is a hands on owner (not hands on the girls, but hands on the details).  its a labor intensive, service oriented business with egos and dreams always on the tightrope (both men and women clients).

If he is thinking of delegating, handing it off, unless the people are exceptional, its the first recipe for failure and there have been "oodles" of agnencies in Cali that failed.

Thanks Dennis!

On the agency business, I don't know anything about the operation / supply side (other than that which should be obvious). My expertise comes from the PR marketing and sales - the demand side. I have more than a sleeping curiosity.  Obviously, there is a HUGE market. I am of the opinion that it is not being nearly as informed and serviced as is possible.

Colombia is of interest in this regard.  But so is Romania and Moldova.

This is just a fun / fact finding week for me.

I will write an interesting TR upon returning.  (Thanks for the PM.  That is me in the Avatar.  I GET the whole gringo thing.  I dress waaay down, no jewelry, no fancy talk when I am in the brush  ... it is a great adventure is it not?  I will be extra cautious the first time in Colombia ... no "loco blanca tigre"  behavior - or at least that is my plan now.)

:)

PS ... what city are you moving to?
