PacMan WBC Lightweight Champion!
« on: June 29, 2008, 09:31:23 AM »
Manny Pacquiao took over as the Ring Magazine pound for pound number one ranked boxer in the world on June 9, 2008, after Floyd Mayweather, Jr. announced his retirement from boxing. ESPN had favored Joe Calzaghe. After his ninth round KO of David Diaz last night, Pacquiao won his fifth weight division title. No one will dispute...well, maybe some Mexicans ;D that the "Mexecutioner" is now, pound for pound, the current "King of the Ring!"

That was a sweet fight.  Manny had already pounded Diaz face into hamburger (that was a wicked cut over his right eye) when he put that devastating left to him that put him down hard and knocked him out.  Impressive victory!

Hi Swisskid,

Welcome to P-L!

Diaz said it felt like Manny was cutting him with a knife. Manny felt that he had more power at the higher weight. People worried that he would lose his speed. Diaz said it wasn't the power, but Manny's speed that impressed him and did him in.

David Diaz is planning to visit the Philippines this month with his wife on a "leisure trip"...no doubt at the invitation of Manny Pacquiao. I have been predicting this. Diaz will probably train there and work on his speed. Manny will likely move up in weight and Diaz will reclaim his old WBC Lightweight belt.
