I dont get it?

Someone started a thread concerning presidential candidates, i personally thought it was kind of interesting and others must have thought the same because several members posted on the subject. Next thing i notice is that the thread was moved to the flame room which struck me as odd, it seems it would have been better to have been placed on the off topics section. Well anyway members continued to post anyway and then all the sudden it was locked. I dont get it? I know i dont post much on this board so maybe i am unfamiliar with the way things are run here but in my opinion that whole thing was handles completely wrong. So i ask whoever did this these questions. 1. why was the thread moved to flame instead of off topic? 2. why was it locked?

 First off, two topics seem to always end up creating a problem. 1: Religion and 2: Politics. It was in the off topics section for a time but it ended up in the flame room because some members could not post without calling each other names and tossing out lots of childish little digs, then it was locked because those same folks could not back off of that behavior when they were asked to.

 The topic would have remained open in the off topic section if this group "adults" had not resorted to, and continued down the path of, elementary school children who didn't get their way.

well its not my site, im not a moderator, i guess you guys know what you want posted and what you dont want, in fact i only come on this site maybe 2 or 3 times a week and read a few posts and maybe make one or two comments.
However, it does seem to me that you do have a tendancy to move threads around alot, which just strikes me as odd. I would just let them do their thing, i mean if it gets so bad that grown men are threatening each other or something like that then i would lock up a thread, but a heated discusion never hurt anyone. just my two cents
