Honey is in her own place now.  If you call living with 5 other Filipinas her own place.  The phone was turned on tonight (Monday morning her time).  I was so happy to see her again.  I missed seeing her in our chats.  Guys if you have to make a choice, the laptop with camera was the best sacrifice I ever made.

It was a hard week.  For some obvious reasons and for others not so obvious as well.  I lost my job this month, had my wife moved under stress away from her family, I had to deal with the thoughts of the bombing and the potential of long term unemployment because of it, possible the loss/slow down of immigration on the K-3 or I-130.  It didn't help not being able to chat with my wife like we have been used to for over a 1 1/2 years now.

But when the week was over the things were all as good as could be hoped for.  My daughter actually married a guy I liked and my "ex" hates him (hehehe).  I was so proud to be the 1st they invited over for dinner.  Honey got her phone put in and has made lots of friends from here and mag-anak to help her throught this tough time.  She made up with her parents who miss her now and actually ask her for things instead of demand them and get mad because she dpoesn't give it.  I got another job finally with an International Hotel chain who couldn't believe someone with my skills was available (and the chances of advncement here are unbelieveable).  My boss is married to a Filipina who is wanting me and my wife to spen lots of time with them.  I have met several Mag-anak guys whith wives and penpals on there way her about the same time as honey should get here.  I even got the karoake program to work on my computer.

I know some of you down like religion but I know it was our (Honey and mine) fasting and praying together that got us through this.  Fasting and prayer never fails.  It was so wonderful to see her so happy and smiling again.  Thanks for all your support.

I've been unemployed for over 4 months now, not a lot of options, stuff's in storage, living with a friend, unemployment wages run out soon, declared bankrupcy.  Oh, yeah, not writing to anyone.

and how you market yourself.  Computer skills are just not enough right now.  You need to be able to build or repair something to be marketable.  If you can thats what you need to emphasize.

Even thought the manager at the international hotel wants to hire me he still keeps getting the put off by the big bosses due to this economy slowdown but even with that I think they have to hire me or they'll lose him and have to hire me anyway untrained.

I am glad in a way its taking longer because I have had a chance to look at a few other places.  Just got of the phone with one now.

The things employers are looking for are skills.  Not the sit behind a desk surfing the web stuff but people who can manage groups of people in the installation, repair and maintenance of equipment.  Reports say that even though un-employment is on the rise they are 21,000 people short in this area and will be over 70,000 short by 2003.  Have no doubts this economy is going to turn around real quick.  Too much money and too much happening to ignore many opportunities coming.  All of this was going to happen without the WTC event it just happened quicker and will now have a military action to help turn it around faster.

Another field I bet thats doing good in cable instalation for cable modems.  I have a friends who works 60-70 hrs a week and is bringing in over $90K/yr.  This is the coming thing.  Soon every home in tyhe country will be connected to this system for computer, phone, video service.

Hi Jon,

Yes, it looks bad out there for SW Engineering, like 1990/91.  In '91 I was out for 6 months, savings gone, made a mortgage payment with a credit card, sold my piano to make the next one, borrowed from my father for the next one and kept falling into debt.  I was considering selling the house at a firesale price when I finally got a job.

Things change.  If I were you I would keep writing; you could use a friendly ear or two right now.  No good Filipina is going to be deterred by a severe but temporary setback in your financial positon.

I am so happy to hear that things have taken a good turn for you in so many ways.  I am especially encouraged by the softening of attitude by Honey's family - a good 1st step I believe.

I have been praying for you and I too believe in the power of sincere prayer.

Love to you both,

Jean

That's great Bear!  Good Luck with the new job.  I wouldn't mind working for an international hotel myself and have a bit of a career change.

That great news Bear, I wish you the best and as much joy that life can bring you. And I'll be watching your timeline on the I-130 and K-3 because i'm in the same boat.

she used to post here more but doesn't do as much now.  Even thought I have encourged it she rarely does.  She reads these posts everyday and, as I have heard, some of family members do as well.
