How can I call Colombia cheaply from my cell phone?

If I dial direct my cell phone company charges about $1 per minute.  I tried using a dial-around like 1010-345, but it won't work, at least not on Sprint.  If I use calling cards can I call from my cell phone and only pay the cheap calling card rate?  What do you recommend?

Sign up with MCI  20 cents a minute to Colombia.  Plus you get 5 FF miles with every dollar you spend.  I already have a free trip saved up.

Woops,  from a cell phone?  Union Phone Card has the best rates.  You must live in the Mtn states I think, to use it.

When I'm in the states I use a virtual calling card from callingcards.com.  It's about 5 cents a minute plus I can dial from any phone, cell, home or office.  You have to dial the 800 #, then your pin and then the phone number.  It's easy enough for me. -TNC

Steve,
I use Big Zoo ~ bigzoo.com. Calls to Colombia are .08/minute. You simply call a local number, input your code and you're off to the races. They allow you to "charge up" your account via credit card over the web. I use them successfully and trouble-free for calls to Europe on a weekly basis. They're a great company.

All the best,
Terence

I use Netone international.  For $50.00 I get about 600 or 700 minutes to Bogota.  No problem on my cell here in Dallas.

I used NetOne for my home long distance service.  Is that a calling card for $50?  Do you dial an 800 number first?

Thanks

Steve,

That's with their calling card.  What I did was set up two calling card accounts in case there is a problem with one of the numbers and their customer service is gone for the evening or weekend.  It is an 800 number and when I run out of minutes, I just call and add more minutes to the same number.

Steve, I call my wife all the time from my cellphone with my noblecom.com calling card for about 5 cents a minute.  It is a bit of a hassle to do because I have to first recall noblecom's 800 access number from my phone list, then after it asks for my calling card number I have to recall the access number from my phone list and finally when it asks for the number I have to recall that from my phone list, but it is doable and I do it regularly since my wife is in Colombia right now.

Bruce

Thanks a lot for the info.  I just looked at their website and that looks like a great deal.  I don't even want to think about how much money I was wasting at $.20 per minute.  Granted, the cards have a small weekly or monthly fee, but my wife will use up a card in a few weeks.

Thanks again.  I think that's just what I was looking for.

Bruce, I use the same method using the LA Aggresive phone card.  The rate was .08 a minute.  It seems the rate has gone up.  The card I bought today is about .12 a minute.
Anybody calling from Los Angeles have a better deal?

I use the CTA Gold Oro card availible in some liquor and convenience stores in the San Diego area. You can also get it from ctacard.com. It's about $.05 a minute.

http://www.phonecards-prepaid.com

Lots of providers to choose from. South Amer. Express and Mexico Express have worked for me at around 5 cents a minute to Col.

Good question.  My novia asked me this last week when I was in Bogota.  She can call me from her cell phone in Colombia and it costs her less than a dollar.  I then call her back.  She asked me why she can call me from her cell phone in Colombia but I can't call her from my cell phone in the US.  I also have Sprint.
