I am de-cookied here at the office so I can't edit my previous post.

The link to the Yahoo story is

I just went to www.aa.com to send a commendation email to American Airlines.  I noticed on their front page the first special fare offered on their Net SAAver Alerts is Miami to Rio, Brazil for $529.  Hmm, let's see, I took Economics in college.  If demand goes up, price goes up.  If demand goes down, price goes down.  You don't suppose.....

little b, you are a pompous ass.  This is a Latin bulletin board, not a Brazilian one.  Your slandering of anyone not vocally sharing your beliefs about Brazil shows what kind of lunatic you are.  While we all wish security and policy towards Latin travelers to the US, or all foreign travelers for that matter, wasn’t so inconvenient for them, but we have real security issues here at home and we have to do something about it even if the execution of it is imperfect.  These terrorists that hit us on 9/11 were no idiots and are smart enough to know that if we impose tight security restrictions for entering the US only to entry points from Muslim countries, they can enter the US from non-Muslim countries and thus it is necessary to apply security restrictions to visitors from all countries.  It is a nasty turn of events, but necessary in today’s world.

While I don’t have a lot of feelings one way or another towards Brazil based on personal experience, I have to say your insipid cheerleading for it while denigrating everybody else is a strike against Brazil in my book.  The messenger is always considered as well as the content of his message, and in your case, when you come on here and post like a self-centered, uneducated, ill-informed ass, it doesn’t leave Brazil looking too sweet.

I know this post is falling on deaf ears when it comes to you, because you are mentally unhinged and lack the capacity for reasonable thought, but someone needs to intelligently refute your idiotic assertions, lest someone else actually believes you.

Comming through other doors is a good point. There was an article a while back in the New Yorker magazine about a recent big influx in the already large Middle Eastern/Arab population of one of the border cities (with Argentina) in Paraguay.

I believe the city you're referring to is Ciudad del Este at Iguazu Falls.

...the person who needs to hear it is without a clue. People have been telling him this sort of thing for three years now on LWL--well, they sort of gave up a year or two ago, actually--but he apparently likes being a pompous ass.

Brazil is carrying out a policy of reciprocity which has been longstanding and not the result of recent events.  Reciprocity is used in many other areas of International Law.  Of course, one simple solution to this would be for Americans to just quietly go through the necessary procedures with grace, that is, go through their customs patiently without whining and complaining.  The last article I read said it only takes 45 minutes with 10 minutes to get the fingerprints and pictures.  Unfortunately, those type of Americans are a vanishing breed

If Brazil is so interested in reciprocity, when do they plan to put a man on Mars?

Mark Hertsgaard, "The Eagles Shadow."  I didn't care much for the first chapter or two (I found some errors in his logic) but all-in-all I thought it was a well written and well thought out argument.

I just read the Amazon.com writeup and it sounds real interesting.  Amazing to me how much tunnel vision thought there is around here, so I appreciate the reference.

I hope(?) its ok if I post the Amazon link:

I think it should be understandable for rational minded people throughout the world why the US is still a bit paranoid, reactionary and overprotective of who is entering.  Maybe not for those cuddly lover types in California, but for some of us who were making calls on 9/12 in search of friends and loved ones, it makes sense.

i dont see anythig wrong with taking photos and fingerprints while entering the US,i would want to know if the person with the visa, is actualy the person who it was issued too, or the brazilians doing it either but how many americans are trying to enter brazil illegaly, or stay past their visa date, not too many, but how many brazilians are trying to enter the US illegaly,or stay after their visa expires, im sure its a lot more, and they are not just requiring it for brazilians, but other counrties, so i dont see any problems with this.
