What's the best method for planning travel between cities in Colombia, especially during the Xmas holidays? Do local airlines have internet sites where you can purchase tickets?

Anybody ever traveled west of Cartagena to Sincelejo, Sucre or Monteria, Cordoba? Any info or recommendations regarding travel, security etc?

The only local airline that I know of that has a web site is Avianca and I don't think you can purchase tickets on it anyway. Buying tickets to travel within Colombia is much cheaper if you buy the tickets in Colombia. I am talking less than half the price than buying them here in the states. I recently checked the price on air fare for a round trip ticket from Cali to Bogota and I was quoted a price (at a travel agency here in the states) of $239 per person on Avianca. My wife bought the exact same tickets in Cali for 175,000 pesos. That is less than half the price I would have paid here.

The thing is the only colombian airline that you can buy tickets from for domestic flights within colombia from here in the states is Avianca. Within Colombia Aviance has to compete head to head with other domestic airlines like Aero Republica. Some travel agents can see the availabity on the Aero Republica flights but they can not sell you the tickets.

This has been my experiance. If you find a way to purchase tickets on Areo Repulica from here in the States let me know.

If you can read Spanish fairly well you can go to www.despegar.com click on the Colombia icon and purchase airline tickets through this website.  As of today a round trip ticket from Cali to Bogota leaving this Thursday and returning on to Cali on December 20 is about $107.00 not bad considering the short notice.
