not a very professional response to your decision not to go down. that agency sounds desperate for gringos. their response will hurt their business.

And these guys who are putting you down are mad because they lost some money.
You need to go with your gut feeling, don't ignore it.And if you are concerned it will get in the way of enjoying your trip.
I don't think Colombia or Barranquilla is safe,I just think the risk is not too high if you are carefull. The most worrysome thing I have heard recently are these get the gringos statements from some of the rebels. It wouldn't be too hard to find a bunch of gringos, try any agency.I doubt that much will happen but fortunately I have untill December to access the situation before I go again, and I will be staying with relatives in a good and guarded neighborhood.

Hi Tim,

If I got an email like that from an agency owner I'd be pissed, it's condescending and arrogant.  Colombia is a dangerious place if only for the street crime, no one should ever be ridiculed for having second thoughts about going. This guy is a royal jerk and I think you should identify the agency so others can be warned.

Ah, that agency wouldn't be Barranquilla's Best where "Your Safety is Guaranteed or Your Money Back!!!" is it?  What a relief!

The FARC leader targeting gringos--I'm concerned that they may realize that agencies may be a good target. Just being a little cautious right now. It will not scare me away for too long I hope. We'll see what happens then I'll make plans again later. Everyone has to decide for themselves what sort of risk they feel is reasonable for them.

Tim,
Please post the name of the agency that sent you this response. It's time to hold these idiots accountable. It is amazing how many knuckle scrapers are in this business, it's no wonder so many fail. They think they never have to answer e-mails, they have poor communications skills, and delight in trying to gouge the customers. Sheesh....

For a clue, a recent thread was started concerning safety. I believe this was in response to my decision.

Thanks,

Tim.
