Almost lost the car in the rain here , but was lucky enough to get it home. I think if I had been out 30 more minutes we wouldn't have a working car now.We were very lucky.

Your brother is in my prayers.

Greg:
Personally I feel that Philippines is only good for seeking a wife, vacationing and having a good time.

Carrisse:
Thank you but please don't view the PI as a breeding ground for excellent wives although this is flattering.

Greg:
We want only the best for our Son..Many happenings in the Philippines have convinced us that the Philippines isn't good for our Son.

Carrisse:
No place in the world is for any child unless the child have the love of both the father and the mother.  It does not only take a village to raise a happy and well-balanced child, it starts with a happy and well-balanced family.

Greg:
We just want our only Son to have the best of everything, good health, schooling...a kick in his rear lol.

Carrisse:
Who says you can't get these things in the PI.  Have you heard of IS (International School) they have one of the best curriculums in the PI.  There's also Brent School in Baguio. UST and UP are both good colleges.  As far as good health, the Chinese General Hospital as well as the Philippines General Hospital are all good hospitals.  There are several good orthodontists and dentists. As far as kicking him in the rear--yeah try that here and find your neighbor telling you to CPS.  The Philippines is the only place in the world where I can swack my son's bottom in public for misbehaving, second only to our own home.

Greg:
If you take a good look, you will notice how the Philippines age a person especially their skin.

Carrisse:
Uh are you sure?  I'm almost 40 and modesty aside I can pass for a 25 year old.

Greg:
Many doctors there are unable to practice in the States, so why take a chance on him doing harm to your child?

Carrisse:
Where did you base this assumption?  Have you heard of the phrase "Brain drain" in the PI?  This phrase stems from the doctors and nurses being pirated by international hospitals to work for them.

Greg:
For those that think it's a good idea to leave your Son or daughter in the Philippines..Buy them a one-way flight ticket to R.P. asap..lol lol hehehehehee I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy's child hehehe.

Carrisse:
You know its one thing for foreigners to look down on ones country but this statement is really uncalled for.

Note: I just did a Stephen, my God!

Hi carrisse,

I agree with your point's. However, two thing's; first, last time I checked, tuition for IS(International School) in Manila was $10,000 per semester for high school. That was back in 1980. I went there. Can't IMAGINE what it cost now. If I recall, Brent was even more, though I could be wrong on that. I also went to La Salle for a while, another very good school, but also expensive, though I don't know how much it cost back then.

Also, I may be wrong, but I never heard of the "brain drain" applying to doctor's from the Philippines, only nurses. A person who get's a medical degree even at UP cannot get a medical liscence in the U.S. w/o more schooling and passing a test. A friend of mine here, who has since moved back to the RP, (a doctor himself, graduated from UP or Ateneo, I'm not sure as he went to both) told me this a couple of years ago. He was around the top in his graduating classs, too.

I have two nephew's who just graduated and we will be sending them to college. They were honor student's in high school, but still had thier sites set to some local college (they recieved small scholorship's to one). I told them to check out UP or another higher standard's school. They were thrilled. I know some degree's are not 100% recognized from there (like medical), but most are, as compared to other, smaller, Universities in the RP.

I think the reason for this problem with most degree's not being equally recognised in the U.S. is because of the fact that the Filipino only has 10 yrs. of elementry and high school. For example, to join the U.S. military, a Filipino national must have a high school diploma + two yrs. of any college. That is so it equals 12 yrs. like in the U.S..

Personally, I think this is unnesecsary, since all Filipino HS graduates seem to know as much as any 12 yr. US graduate. They just pack 12 yrs. into 10. Smiley

I just died laughing!

Carrisse,

I was part of the Brain Drain in the 70's. I drank so much, my brain cells got drained out and flushed down the toilet. Probably why I drink a lot of water today. I am trying to get them back. ;o))

The only answer I knew was the last one, from your nephew's exam. E. None of the above ;o)

All this is pretty ironic as I think of what your son and you are going through.  Afterall, your son knows alot more than what the computer program gathered at that one time.  That should be regarded as simply one human-originated error rather than a knowledge deficit.

Hey Jeff,

My brother got a can of that "bald spot" spray paint when he retired. So he painted my bald spot and made my beard darker. I wanted to grow a ZZTop beard, but my baby won't let me. Then I found out, the only reason Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill can is they aren't married. I would rather be married to my baby. ;o))
