In regards to long hair, that depends. When I was eight years old my family traveled to Colombia (1982) and remember that many young men was sporting the long hair. Just long hair in the back not the front (bangs). I believe this was a crossover trend started by the Argentines. In Argentina you still see young men with that hairstyle, especially soccer players. I believe most Colombianas do not like it BUT it is still common in some regions. Also, although they might not admit it most Colombians are physically self-cautions and also tend to judge people based on their looks and the way they dress. If a very attractive young male sports the long hair he would not be judge as harshly.

I think long hair is out with Calenas, the longer the more out.I guess you could take a little comfort from Pedro in the novela Pedro El Escomoso, who has long hair, but I think they did this to his character so they could make him look better later,as in Betty le fea.I think somewhat short hair is in.I think you could look at any one but Pedro in the novelas for an example.
I myself have a beard and that is also a negative.A mustache is OK.I guess a beard is kind of the immage of a bandito. My mother in law suggested I shave mine to a go tee.I told her I hate that look and here that is more of a biker bad guy look.
Other than that I think they prefer slim.Muscles not needed.Sort of like their national heros, soccer players.
I was walking with my wife in the airport in Bogota. We passed this group of average looking young guys. She said it was the Colombian football team.I told her when you walk by an American football team they do not look like your normal group of guys.
So clean cut, short to medium length hair,no beard, maybe a mustache and slim is the in look I believe. How much they will stray from these guidelines depends on the individual girl.
Grooming is important, things like fingernails are an issue. One of the first things my wife did after we met was take me for a manicure.

The reason fo the long hair in Pedro el escamoso, is becouse guys in Colombia  without any class  wear long hair.....And Pedro is one of those.....for the way he talks and acts and wears.

Hi Pete - I watch Pedro just about everyday.  Pedro was from the "country" so that is why he wears a "mullet" hairstyle in the show.. In real life he does not have the long hair in the back.  This hairstyle is more common in the smaller country towns than in the cities.  He is married to another actress on one of the other telenovelas who is a dead ringer for a friend of my wife.  You notice Pedro went back to the country town he was from awhile back and picked up his son, who has a little "mullet" hairstyle.  Pedro is a popular telenovela and has been for some time.

I would say that long hair is not popular, as a generalization, with colombianas.  But there are always exceptions where some women like it.

I agree with Pete.My novia says long hair is out.First thing I was asked, nicely, was to shave my beard off.I had it for 20+ years.Well I dont now.My novia did the manicure herself. She also says body piercing is out.Yes dressing well is essential. Not overly dressed but good clothes-Even when casual.Good Luck on your search.Buck

Thanks guys...

I'm off to Cali on July 3rd for my first trip...

I have a moustache, goatee and pony tail... Chalk up the pony tail to being a parrotthead and maintaining some individuality in the corporate conundum... lmao... Oh well, it's only hair...
