I have been away from this forum for quite some time. However, I have read several threads about Guadalajara and Mexican women lately. I am concerned about the broad misconceptions and generalizations I am reading.

A little background for the new posters: I am posting under a new name because I can't access my old account. Some of you may remember I went to Guadalajara on vacation in June 2000, and met a beautiful woman. I sold my home and went to study Spanish in GDL for five months in January 2000. After dating, returning to Oregon and now newly married in November 2001, I am living in a small town in the Los Altos region of eastern Jalisco. My wife is a hospital Administrator and I teach English and am growing some Agave on the side.

The region where I live is reputed to have the best looking girls in the world. Although this claim is sure to be challenged, I think it is right on the money. The girls here are not the typical Hispanic girls you may see in the USA. Most of those girls are from the countryside or southern Mexico, where they are more apt to be pure Indian. The girls from  Jalisco, Sinaloa, Sonora and Chihuahua (all central to northern states) are the best looking in Mexico. Here in Jalisco, I can't decide which girls are better looking, the girls from GDL (Tapatias) or Los Altos (Altenas). Tapatias are tall, curvaceous with big brown eyes and morena clara skin. Altenas (my wife is an Altena) are renowned for being natural blond  with blue or green eyes, tall and curvaceous. Yes, natural blonde! I have seen the prettiest girls in the world here, I can vouch for that, because I see them everyday. Even though I am happily married to a beautiful, professional, educated woman, I still notice.

I believe the women here, in addition to being the prettiest on earth, are also more in line with what some men profess to be looking for, that is traditional. These girls are very traditional and conservative. They require much more time to get to know and many have no desire to leave Mexico, as things are very good here for the middle and upper classes. The only reason these girls go to the USA is for vacations or to study. You have probably seen them, and didn't even know they were Mexican.

Sorry to rock the Colombian boat on this Colombian agency oriented forum, but I have to tell you folks the best Latin girls are not in Colombia, they are directly south of the border in central Mexico.

Thanks for the update.  Now, when are you going to start the Mis Alteñas agency?  Saludos desde los campos del Condado Frenso,

PD.  ¿Hay tilde sobre la "n" en alteño, como en "norteño", o estoy equivicado?  Pues es solamente para curiosidad, y muchas veces estoy equivicado sobre cosas que tenga que ver con el español.  Nunca he tenido oportunidad vivir en México, solamente he podido visitarlo.

Hello dear sir, first of all, I respect your opinion about Mexican women but I can't help but challenge your opinion regarding Mexican women. You are right, most of the women I have dated in Chicago were Mexican, Mexican-Americans. Yes, great memories from these former girlfriends, friends. Your right Mexican women from Guadalajara and Sinaloa are extremely beautiful.  You also gave examples of physical standards that correspond to region/state.  I will be honest most non-Mexican Latinos think that Mexican women are not attractive.  I am not one of them, I believe and have seen very beatiful Mexican women but most do lack something.  You see my friend many Mexican women have a pretty face but (in my opinion) they lack the curvaceous body to go with that elegant face. (Guys please don't  view me as a dog....I am just giving   my opinion on something based on what I have read).  Yes whether you believe it or not many Mexican women DO NOT have the body we all love to see on a women. My ex-girlfreind is from Jalisco and she had beautiful hazel big eyes, nice cute aqualine nose and lips with the perfect amount of thickness....but....she also had a flat butt, and twigs for legs nontheless she captured my heart, anyway I'm sorry if I sound like a generalizing cavemen but if you compare your Mexicanas' bodies with a Brazilian, Venezuelan, Colombian, Panamanian, Puerto Rican, Dominican, Cuban there is NO COMPETITION period!!!!! I honestly think this fact is due to history, you see my friend all the countries I mentioned there has been a significant amount of mixing of different races. These races include Mongoloid(Native American),Caucasoid, and Negroid. Mexico has not seen a significant amount of Negroid in their blood--many Mexicans seem to be proud of this(if I am being bias, pardon me). Yes, my friend, the past decade of dealing with Mexican girlfriends have taught me one thing indeed. Most Mexicans are racist against anything black(I know I have touch on this subject, but its dear to me, so forgive my boldness forum). My friend look at the Miss Universe competition--3 of the top 5 countries are Venezuela, Brazil, and Colombia---and what do these 3 countries have in common besides CURVACIOUS, HOUR-GLASS FIGURE, VOLUPTUOS WOMEN? All three also have a very diverse people that touch every strata of humans--with this thought I farewell you with a checkmate---Colamn

The way a woman dresses/fixes her hair/puts on her makeup can and does affect the way she looks.

Living in NYC I get to see all types of Latinas, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Dominicans, Colombians, Mexicans, Brazilians, Guatemalans,  Salvadorans, you name it, we have it, the main difference I see is that the Puerto Ricans, Colombians etc. tend to dress more provocatively, Tight Jeans, high heels and they have a better idea of how to fix their hair and put on their makeup than their Mexican/Central American sisters.

To me that is the main difference.

hey man,

welcome back! i remember you from 6 months ago or so. you had a little site put together of pictures of your then future wife and her family, etc.

do you have any more shots of the area around where you are living? landscape, houses, etc. (o.k., women also!), so we can get a feel for the area?

i have heard many good things about gda since you posted your experiences here, and i like high and dry climates.

i do have one question. when the folks from your area talk about pleasure travel to the u.s.a., what are the places they would most like to visit? is it san diego and the west coast, or do they look to the east? what areas of the u.s. do they seem to have a connection to?

hey, congrats, i remember thinking what a lucky man you were when i saw your photos.

see ya,  bret

Well, I can't really post any photos of women anymore, but I am working on posting more photos of my life here.

When Mexicans talk about travelling to the USA for vacations, three places continually pop up; California, Texas and New York City. That being said, my sister in law and her family are on a ski vacation to Bend, Oregon this week, after I told them how great the area is. Many Mexicans also like to take Ski vacations, and I remember one friend of mine who with her dad and brother drove to Ruidoso, N.M. from GDL just for a weekend of Skiing, a 20 hour drive, mas o menos.

Thanks for the kind words...

The 'pure Indian' comment gave you away even before I got to the end of your post where you revealed yourself.

I see things haven't changed.

Juan, I know you think you are some sort of champion of political correctness. I am describing my PERSONAL PREFERENCE here, which are natural blonde latinas with blue or green eyes (I just described my wife!). To me, there is nothing more exotic than a latina fitting that description. I have seldom seen a pure Indian woman here that attracts me, what is so wrong with that?

If I was looking for a woman in Colombia, I would go to Medellin or Bogota, because that is where the whiter (can I say white without offending you?) women are. If I was looking in Panama, I would go to the Chiriqui province, where the people there are descended from Swiss settlers. But you never know, I might have met a beautiful Morena somewhere...relax, Juan...please.

If your wife is Altena... you'd BETTER decide that Altenas are better looking... LOL

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

I've already decided that I'm heading there in April if things don't work out for me in Brazil in March...

Randy,
Thanks for the post, its good to get some real imput.I was one of the guys questioning the looks of the girls there, but you make such a good case I'm almost convinced without seeing it myself.Sounds alot different that the Mexicanas we are used to seeing.
You mention the girls are not anxious to leave. This puts them in a different catagory than most Colombianas.I also remember reading that the Guadalajara area has alot of American retirees. For the guys old enough or with the means to live there, how do these girls who would rather stay feel about age differences? What Else can you tell us about living/retiring there? What about crime?Cost of living?
Weather?Issues with the government?

Thanks

Hi Pete, nice to hear from you. I will answer your questions below:

1) Problems with age gaps: This doesn't appear to be an issue at all here. In one of my classes, I have a 34 year old single factory manager and a 17 year old hottie sweetheart of a girl. He has been flirting with her forever, and after class he asked her out, and she accepted. I asked my boss if this was a problem here in Mexico. He said no, of course not. As long as the girl is over 16 and the family gives the go ahead, any thing is possible. I asked the same question of the professional family I lived with in GDL, after they tried to fix me up with the 17 year old neighbor girl across the street. They looked at me like I was from Mars. She was a perfect female prototype too, about 5'11" with long blonde hair...Anyway, no, age differances don't appear to be a problem. I like the combination of beauty and maturity I find in my wife, though, as she is 36 and I am 41.

2)Retirees in Jalisco: Yes, there are many retirees in GDL, but the majority live one hour south of GDL, in the beautiful Lake Chapala area. There are about 7,000 or so retirees, mostly from Canada and the USA. They have quite a Gringo infrastructure there, so the culture shock for new arrivals is minimal. Here in my town, I am the only Gringo.

3)Crime: Crime, of course is everywhere. There seems to have been a proliferation of Cholos (gangbangers from the USA) home for the holidays. Hence, the crime rates soar, and before the police (who would rather do nothing) catch them, they are back in the USA. Car theft rates in GDL are among the highest in Mexico.

4) Cost of Living: This is on the increase, especially since the government is raising taxes on everything from food to water to gas. I would say the cost of living exceeds the rural area of eastern Oregon where I am from. But there are still deals out there, and rents are far cheaper. You just have to know how to shop, and having a Mexican family helps in finding deals.

5) Weather: The weather here in Los Altos is anything but tropical. We are at 7000', so we have a brisk, healthy climate. It has snowed in the hills surrounding town twice this winter, and the temps have been in the twenties often. The climate in GDL and Lake Chapala is about ten degrees warmer.

6) Govt. Issues: Red tape and a slow beauracracy is a way of life here. I just have to get used to it. The cops are usually not trustworthy and lack education. However, I know a couple of Engineers who are on my Soccer team that have really pushed Sewage treatment and traffic control, so there are some good, hard working public servants out there.

Hope this helps...Alteno

I don't think you can take a colombian wife to live there.  I think it's for mexicans and americans only.
