San Andres is a small island(8miles x2 miles)in the caribean that is part of Colombia. The people speak english(former english colony)and spanish. It is very touristy, big hotels on the beach, smaller ones in town. The beaches are nice.I would call it an inexpensive place by caribean standards. We stayed at the Sunrise, one of 2 5 star hotels on the island for $110 a night.Better deals can be had if you have a good travel agent an get an all inclusive(meals included) deal. The travel agent we used in Bogota didn't get us any deals and put us in a bad hotel we payed for but didn't stay at.They also told us we had to fly back through Bogota to go to Cartegena. Not true. There are 2 smaller airlines(I forget the names )that make this flight.
They also are a duty free shopping zone, lots of good buys.
Good place to go if beaches are high on your list. Not much else there.Quite unlike the rest of Colombia.
Oh,forget Providencia(nearby island)unless you like issolation,cold showers and mosquitos.

I spent a week there about 3 months ago.  It is real nice, very safe.  Much like a Bahama islands in reference to the people, food, etc.  The water is gorgeous similar to the Caymans.  I rented mopeds, scuba, snorkeled with rays, dolphins, the usual islands stuff.  Airline I used was Avianca and it was a breeze.  I stayed at an all inclusive resort with airfare, food , booze, etc$650 for two people.  Just go to a travel agent in Cali or Bogata and they will set you up...

Are people for some reason not seeing all the posts on the board?  First Cali Vet thinks his post is deleted, though it's clearly visible to me, now this guy asks about an Island mentioned only a very short distance down the board with San Andres in the title.

To remind you, my post refered to a Swiss I met with a retirement visa etc. I posted it in the morning 1/28 it was gone by late afternoon and it's still gone. How can you be unaware of what posts you've deleted, you have secretary deleting them or something?

Hey vet, give the guy a break, its not like he is getting rich from us. With your handle you should be writing about information, not worrying if you will be remembered for your responses. You can rewrite your post.I just wrote a long post about expenses living in Colombia and not one person contributed, commented or even disagreed with the information. We need to stop paying so much attention to the flaming neurotics that post from time to time or the deletions caused by them. I have spent nine months total in Cali in the past two and 1/2 years and have only scratched the surface. We are all looking for new hard information so lets not get sidetracked. jim c

Cali Vet,

I am the secretary so I'm the one who delets any posts. There was a thread in which Junfan and Pack were trading insults (The Two Gringos thread) which I chopped off at the portion where the fight started, and there was another exchange between them further up the board where there was speculation on Pack's identity on another forum that I chopped.  Unless I accidently checked another post when clicking the mouse on the administration page, or your post was in their threads, it shouldn't have been deleted it.  If it was deleted, it was unintentional and you have my appologies.  You're sure it wasn't the
www.planet-love.com/wwwboard/latin/messages/26660.html post that you were talking about?

I beleive it followed a post on living costs in Cali by Malandro 2002. In any case it's history now so we can just move on.

Hey Vet,

I remember Patrick explaining this a few times.  Any child post of a parent that is deleted, get's deleted along with the parent automaticly.  Since Malandro has been banned, every post that he makes eventually gets deleted per Patrick's rules on banned former members. Therefore if a person replies to one of Malandro's posts, it's a guaranteed deletion despite there being no objectionable material in it.

ED,
That makes sence of course. If Patrick deleted the post but not the responses people would be wondering what these responses were about.

I agree Pete.  I don't have any problem with the way Patrick goes about deleting. It makes perfect sense that if the parent is deleted all the children should go also.  Sometimes people are surprised by their post being deleted but there's always a good explanation, like responding to a banned member for instance or getting in the middle of some flame war.

I think I've become so accustomed to deleting Malandro after his 25 or so appearances here that it tends not to stand out in my memory anymore.
