I'm tired of just reading about it.

I'm going down in a few days on the spur.

I don't know spanish, I've never been to Colombia.

I think I'm going to go see Margareth at Latin Encounters.

She seems nice for my 1st adventure.

Thanks for all the great info.

Wayne,
Just go.You can work around the language. Its much easier to handle than to try to change someones character(as in your Russian experience.)Most Latinas are a breath of fresh air after skeeming Russians. You will love it down there.

Wayne,

I wish I could say the same about packing my bags and leaving!  Man, oh man....

But, due to my present situation, it can't be done.  But, every day, I'm thinking about my future wife and what it will be like for american women to look at my wife with lust and jealousy because she treats me so well and vis versa.

I keep telling myself, "Patience Hilton...patience".

Peace bro,

Hilton Moore

Say, when you defected over to the "South" side...lol
I don't think there are any two groups of women more different than Latin & Russian women. I'm only going by the experiences of the guys on the Russian board, I have read about & spoke with. I'm aware of your Russian ex. Is there any special reason, why you didn't go back to FSU to try again? And fess up, as to why you chose Latin as opposed to Asian....lol Dayyum Asian board guys think that they're God's gift.....I'M JUST KIDDIN...LOL!

... in response to What did your buddies from the Russian b..., posted by Hoda on Nov 26, 2001

Thanks for the notes.

Oh man, I just love that one,..."buddies from the Russian board"  Those guys hated me over there.  They really don't want any differing opinions on that board.  I was very mild mannered over there with my posts, but they don't want to hear from guys with any real experience over time, unless it includes blowing alot of sunshine up ********.  I still read that board for fun, but I don't post anymore.

This board is so much less hostile then the Russian board.  I really think that the guys that chase Russian Women are as different as the women they are chasing.  Their ears are burning, and I'm surely going to get flamed all the way from over there...

As to why I am going to LA vs Russia this time....  Well, I've been there and done that.  Now I want to try something different.  I have this good friend named Tim that married a Cali girl after doing the B&B thing.  Tim also had been divorced from his Russian wife.  Man, that guy crashed and burned with a couple of RW before he went south. Tim is a happy guy after 5 years.  Then there is my Friend R who's RW filed false child molestation charges on him and had him thrown in jail. The list goes on and on.  I've been around this for a while, and I think I have a feel for the RW scene, and what usually happens.  As I've written, my marriage lasted 4 years, and ended on a friendly level.   But I really think that these RW are opportunistic.  Marriage really means little to many of them, and when they don't need Mr. Boat Across Atlantic  anymore, they usually hit the road. (Now, I do know some guys that have made it work with RW, but the success to failure ratio is very low.  It's just a cold attitude, that I can't really explain.  My RW treated me very well while we were together, but when she left, she never looked back, or even considered reconciliation.  I guess it was a little give and take.  She got to go to college, $10,000 orthodontics and dental work, new car, learned how to run and market a business, got more self confidence, good English, gym, karate, the yacht club, and endless praise and support from her husband. (I did lose my patience sometimes I will admit).  Well, what did I get?  I got to enjoy being married to a young, drop dead gorgeous blonde for a few years.  In the end, she got the better end of the deal, but it's really OK.

I don't know anything about these Colombian women, and I'm really curious.  I don't have any real expectations, so it should be just fun.  I do know one thing though, and that is, I think the dark haired brown eyed girls from Colombia are more attractive then the Russians.  Just my personal taste.

As for Salsa dancing, I have been taking private lessons 3 times a week for 3 months, so that is one thing that won't be a problem.  You see, I thought I could take a short cut and skip the trip to Colombia, and meet a nice Latin lady out Salsa dancing in San Diego...  That may still work, but I just have to go down to see what you guys are talking about.

My friend, had the quote of the week last month. He said, "One Russian women is enough for one lifetime".

Thanks for indulging my ramblings,
Sorry some of it was a little off topic for this board.

Wayne,

The Russian board more HOSTILE....GRRRRR!!!! We'll have to do something about that...lol! With all due respects to the men who go to the FSU. It appears, that they suffer from the highest rate of sharks & scams. I read that board for sometime now. It appears that alot of the RW behavior can be attributed to the last 20-40 years of their history. They have some beauties over there, BUT NOTHING COMPARES to the beauty (inside & outside) of latina's of S.A. I can say this without prejudice, you'll definitely find a "warmer" response to you, than what you've experienced in the FSU.

The cultural differences alone will amaze you. Bro, you went beyond the means of alot of men, in regards to helping your ex. I'm not trying to put a price tag on your love. But IMO, you'll find & be found by a loving latina, who'll require shall I say...a lower maintenance overhead! You appear to be planning on more than one trip. This is a good thing! While it is not impossible to meet your wife, on your first trip. The marriage part on the first trip is rare. Wayne, remember to BREATHE & MOVE YOUR FEET every so often during your intro's/convo's. I don't believe they have the same type of agency set-up in the FSU. So you'll have to guard against the dreaded!!!
KID IN THE CANDY STORE SYNDRONE...(evil music in the background please)!!!! Ohh..DON'T FEED THE SHARKS!!! I know, that you know EXACTLY what I mean!

Leaving in a few days? Wayne is a man in motion, y'all!
Ok, when you get to Miami. Get yourself about $50 dollars in Colombian pesos(approx: 100,000). Quickest conversion formula. Take off the last 3 zeros, then divide by 2. Get small denominations 2k, 5k & 10k notes. Seperate them in different pockets. Colombian cab drivers are notorious for "not" having change of 20k notes. Dayyum Wayne, this is like a trip report I posted. You're an expericened traveller. Just use the same street sense, that you would use when traveling ANYWHERE for the first time...Whew!!

Peace...Hoda

p.s. Your old buddies are/will be just jealous...lol

On pesos, I counted three ATMs right in the Cali airport where you'll get an exchange of 2300+ right now. There is no need to bring any American cash except for what you need passing through U.S. airports.

But Wayne should have someone escort him to the ATM at airport. Since once he clears the checkpoints, he'll have to go out the terminal first, then go back in at the middle or far right (as you leave the last checkpoint) entrances. With this being his first trip, hopefully someone from LE will be there to greet him. He doesn't need to be wandering around alone, with limited spanish skills...

Right. When you go out the door with your bag turn right and walk a few meters where you'll see a stairway that takes you up to the main floor where the ticket counters, stores, ATMs and cafeterias are. The telecom office there offers internet access.

The exchange rates at the U.S. airports SUCK!!!! It'll be lower, than what I quoted before. But the $50 worth will be more than enough to carry you through the day, until you can get to an ATM. If possible carry atleast two cards. One Visa & one Mastercard credit or debit cards. They have the standard ATM card option also. But you'll find out that one card may work at one bank, but not at the other, or one will give you your balance, but the other won't (Welcome to Colombia...lol). Having more than one card, just covers your back more.

Peace...Hoda

p.s. The ATM's offer the best exchange rate...

Wayne - I have no direct experience with RW but they seem a much riskier proposition than latin women.  Many things are changing in the world.  Values are changing in different societies.

So far my fiancée still has traditional values.

I do not think you will be disappointed looking South if you take your time and do it right.  You do have to like Latin culture if you are going to marry one though.  I have gotten used to listening to latin music, which she loves.

Take care.  You are going to have a great time..

Edge,

I just finished talking with my father about 15 minutes ago.  Hi lives in Kansas(Emporia).  He was on call, in the Radiology department, in case one of the technicians needed an x-ray, MRI, or CAT Scan to be read.

Anyway, he and I were talking about the 'present' situation of american women and why he thinks I'm doing the right thing to stay away from american women; even if they appear to be the 'good ones'.

We were discussing the fact that when he married my mother, she was very traditional in her thinking.  And, to this day, she's still very traditional in her thinking, but she just blends in today technology to help her along the way.  She still cooks for my father daily, even when the kids are not around.

But, today's women are different.  He told me, "Hilton, by all means, get your butt down to Colombia and find a wife.  In fact, if you even think or revert to thinking about american women I'll shoot you myself!(he was just kidding when he said this last part, but he was serious about the situation).

My father even went as far as saying that if I have any boys, to tell them to go to south america to find wives!!  And, if I have girls that they should be raised in the traditional manner, but with present technology for their own times.

Not like I don't know this, but I think he's on to something(smiling...)..

later,

Hilton

Hilton - you seem to have alot going for you and right now, a great deal of enthusiasm about heading south to find a wife.  You are on the right track, if a more traditional woman is what you seek.  My advice is to take your time, you are young and have many things going for you.  If you are serious and cannot travel to Cali for awhile, start to learn the language.  The more you can learn, the better off you will be.  Generally, this is a long process, so learning the language is a good foundation to start.  Even if you are lucky enough to find a woman with English speaking skills, you will want to talk to other people (like her family and parents), who probably cannot.

Keep your options open also about maybe going to some of the other cities in Colombia, like Cartegena or Bogotá, if you do not find someone in Cali.

What most of the men here on PL seek, in my opinion, is a good woman who will appreciate what they have to offer.  Sometimes it is never good enough just to be a normal guy, with a regular steady job and not an extravagant lifestyle.  These are qualitities that are attractive to many Latin women.

You can find a more traditional woman, who can handle the technology we have here, by heading south.

Take your time and you will do fine...

Hilton,

You know, there ain't no whuppin worse than "daddy" beat-down...lmao! I can relate to your "laundry-list" of grief with some AW. You know, as well as anyone. That there are quality AW out there. It's just getting dayyum near impossible to meet, let alone keep one. I see you've gone through the "you're such a nice guy, BUT!!! I PREFER TO HAVE THE SNOT REPEATEDLY SMACKED OUT OF ME, BY THIS NEVER HAVING A JOB, REPEAT PAROLE VIOLATING THUG" woman. Then they come calling you, after the last beat-down nearly takes their life or they need some cheddar! Not having dear...lmao.

Peace...Hoda
