Not sure yet where we will get together, but all the jacking around about visas is gettting to be too much stress for both of us.  Unfortunately the agent that was supposed to be be the expert and be able to handle everything dropped the ball in a big way after about 2 months.  So J will be flying to Brasilia next week to take care of everything.  I asked if she wanted to, to check into getting a Mexican tourist visa, then we'd have more options depending on outcome.

So, I'm not sure, Here in the US is #1 choice, but the other options are Brazil or maybe Mexico.

Cozamel Island is a nice, romantic place.  I've stayed at El Presidente a couple times, and would definately choose that place again.

The nice thing is we *should* know in time to make plans.

It is definately wearing the number of weeks that go by where you should know "next week".

You know how deeply affected I am by those internet manly words.  LOL

Gee, maybe that IS why people use reason and explanation over the internet!!!   It's like you get judged on what you say!  It's amazing that Al Gore would have invented that when he invented the internet.  He was one smart guy, but not smart enough to have his brother count the votes in Florida.

Snow looks really nice up in the mountains, I think.  I can see a good mountain from my deck that gets snow on it in the winter.

What's S think about snow/cold?  Are you planning to move, if she can't acclimate?

J has never seen snow, so we'll make a run to someplace and go sledding, etc to send some photos back to the family.  If she doesn't acclimate, we'll probably move, but I don't think it's unfair to say, try it for a year, then decide.  Needless to say, she is reasonable.

Her first winter will kick her azz in a big way. She's trying to get herself mentally ready for it. She's been in contact with other ladies from Cali (whoops, I said the "C" word...Kenfer gonna be pissed...lol) who had to make the same adjustment. It won't be easy for her, but you know I'm gonna do my part to keep her warm...lol!

Peace...Hoda

Mike,
Lets see, bullets made in Colombia?Head protector under his turban?Hollow between the ears?(Bin Laden Family tree)Ricoshayed off the grease?
Seriously it does happen.A bullet that hits any part of the brain will cause damage, not always fatal.Remember Jim Brady,Reagans aide who got shot in the head by a bullet meant for Reagan? He has severe brain damage but is still alive. They wheel him out every time there is a gun control bill up.Hopefully this guy will not only live but not be a vegetable.
I think Colombian medicine is a 2 sided thing. On the one hand they have some world class doctors, but the care most people get and the condition of the hospitals is substandard I am told.
Also,I am told a hit cost about $200 in Colombia,so don't
p--s anyone off.
Oh,and I agree,lets lighten up.

Mike,
It came from a friend who knows somebody with some intimate knowledge.I immagine the price would vary, depending on the risk to the hit man. Then there might be discounts to friends, maybe a six pack if he is your Buddy.

Pipe down over there!

No I don't think it's particularly funny.

Still don't know how a guy lives after being shot twice in the head. Still wouldn't want that to happen to me and have to deal with Colombian healthcare...dig?

"You are very new and very stupid about Colombia"
I could care less if you think I'm 'new & stupid'. New? Maybe...it's been 14 mos since I met my wife and she's been here for 4. Stupid? Who knows...all I know is I have been down there 6 times, am married to a Colombian, and will probably be going down there once at least once a year for the rest of my life; I deal with Colombia, like you, on a daily basis. Oh, I think I know a thing or two about Colombia...

Mike,

What bad experience have you had or heard about regarding health care in Colombia? I've not had any direct experience but I know my fiance gets homeopathic and naturopathic treatments that are covered by the very inexpensive health insurance she has. Here in the US I have to pay 100% for any health practitioner that isn't a licensed MD. I'm not at all a fan of western medicine for anything but handling of acute crises (e.g. heart attacks, broken limbs.) Also, I don't have any evidence that Colombian hospitals handle gunshot wounds any worse than US hospitals do. Do you?

I'd not hold the US as an example of great health care.

In case of a serious illness you may want to get treated in Colombia. There are excellent doctors experienced treating people who are already sick. Preventative medicine in Colombia is not as widespread as in the U.S. Doctors in the U.S. have more experience in preventative medicine.

In case of a serious accident, when time is of the essence, you have a better chance of survival in the U.S. Everything from the ambulances, paramedics and trauma centers in the hospitals is much better than in Colombia.

you're right...Colombia's healthcare system is great...I'm sorry...sniffle sniffle...but if it's all the same, I'll have them fly me to Miami if it's at all possible....jajaja

Sol,
BTW what difference does it make to you anyway? Just felt like chiming in?  OK, that's cool.

Junfan

Tell us please what information you have that leads you to make disparaging remarks about medical care in Cali. An American friend of mine living there broke both bones in his in his forearm in a fall recently and told me he received excellent medical attention. I also sat next to an American on the plane on my last visit who was on his way down to Cali to get a bunch of dental work done. It was his second trip for this purpose as he was thoroughly  pleased with the results of the first one. If you have a first or second hand account of a medical experiences in Cali please share it with us.
