I have serious doubts about the sincerety of a woman with whom I am communicating in Cali and I want to share this information.  Does anyone know this woman by the description of these details?

I posted recently about this woman, a very attractive 25 year-old with two small daughters who claimed her parents turned her away after she got divorced.  This was a red flag.  But here are all the flags:

1.  She was listed in the Spring TLC catalog with a name of "Maria" but when she first contacted me she said TLC made a mistake and her name is really "Laura".

2.  She does not live with her parents.

3.  She told me she is a hairdresser and she is planning to move to Panama to find work.  I have been told by a male visitor to Panama and by a female Panamanian friend that nearly all of the prostitutes in Panama are Colombianas.

4.  A friend of mine, "Chuck", who is engaged to a woman from Cali, "Adriana", offered to have Adriana meet Laura to check her out.
The meeting was arranged but Laura was a no-show, claiming later that she was sick.

5.  Adriana attempted to arrange a second meeting and Laura gave her grief about the need for the meeting.

6.  Adriana called and reached Laura one time and asked if they could meet.  Laura greeted her enthusiastically and agreed; then suddenly Laura realized she was talking to Adriana and her demeanor and tone changed markedly downward and she said she wasn't sure when she could meet.

7.  Laura frequently leaves me different work numbers at which to call her.  She claims she has no home phone and often gives me different phone numbers where I can reach her at friends' homes.

8.  Laura told Adriana that she has the opportunity to go to Poland without any further explanation.

9.  Laura told me that she has the opportunity to go to the Canary Islands without further explanation.

10.  Laura told me that if I am going to Panama maybe she can meet me there.

11.  Laura called Adriana once when Adriana could not get to the phone.  Adriana has caller ID and she returned the call - to a hotel.

12.  Adriana reported wierd doings at Laura's beauty salon, including the failure of anyone to answer the phone at times.

13.  Laura told me last week that she did go to Adriana's apartment but Adriana was not home.  Adriana said that at about that time a woman came uninvited to her apartment and she heard this woman inquire at the entrance for Adriana's apartment.  She heard the answer given to this female caller: "Adriana lives on the fourth floor."  Then, no one came to Adriana's apartment.

14.  A second meeting was arranged and Laura did not show.  That same day she emailed me asking for money to pay her rent.

15.  Laura has since called and emailed me many times asking for money.  She wants me to pay it to another woman.

16.  Laura called Adriana last week and asked her if she had received a package for her from me.  She told Adriana that she wants a check made payable to her friend because she, Laura, has no ID card.

In this sort of situation, how much do you think I should send to Laura?  (Little joke.)

Tell her you are going to fly down to personally deliver the money she is asking for.  She might think you are her man and you need to support her. She may be just what she claims to be, a struggling single mother looking for her prince charming.  You could be imagining all of the above as red flags and she may have explanations. It is possible you are projecting what you imagine her to be versus who she really is and the only sure way is to go investigate for yourself.

Since you have mentioned in earlier posts that you are going to go on a sojourn to various countries in Central and Latin America for mas o menos 3 months, you could use a trip to Cali as a primer to get you warmed up to the latin ways.  Believe me, Cali would be a great destination for your first trip to LA.

Actually Hamlet - I am just jerking your chain and playing the devil's advocate.  Paola/Laura has so many red flags you were wise to be suspicious.  A person may be able to explain away a red flag or two on occasion, but she seems to have a plethora of flags fluttering about her.

One question here is if you publish more of her personal data so other members are aware of her since she was listed in the TLC catalog?

Good luck on your search and take care.

Pete,

I already thought of that.  Actually it would be nice if someone Cali bound could deliver the package (of gum, deck of cards, etc.) for me.  Perhaps one could enjoy a pleasant evening before forking it over.

Seriously, pull up! pull up!  you're losing altitude.

Good Luck...:-)

Hamlet...I would tell her the truth.  That she'll get her  money as soon as I see my dog stand up on its hind legs strumming a banjo, and singing..."I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy." LOL.

Buzzy,

It's too late to tell her the truth.  I have made several promises to send her the money in the past several days.  I have asked her for instructions on where to send it.

Meanwhile, she sends me repeated "urgente" emails.  She calls 15-20 times a day, sometimes leaving messages.  I'm not taking her calls and I explained to her via email that I am busy with a trial and can't get to the phone.

I will promise her the money again today but tell her it is taking time to put together.

Then in a few days I will email to see if she got the money.  When she says no, I will ask her address and then apologize profusely for mailing it to the wrong address.

Then I will promise to send it again immediately.

Eventually she will come to the realization that it's not productive to try to rip off an Americano who is smarter than she is.

Really I don't think it's about being smarter....MANY, MANY, MANY people in this world confuse Kindness for Weakness.

Maybe she is one of those ?

You're certainly giving her a taste of her own medicine.  I hope she gets the message but I'm guessing that she won't.  She'll probably  come out of this proclaiming that we  Americanos are liars, users, deceivers, etc, etc.  So I would make sure that the climax leaves her no doubt that she's been identified, made, and had.  Of course this awareness will last a few seconds and then she'll go back to condemning Americanos and praising her own inocence.  My guess is that she'll always be in "da nile" about her own predatory behavior.  R from Lima still calls me.  I haven't seen her for 3 years but she still asks for money leaving messages on my machine.  One month it's for a life and death operation, then to start a small business,, then to get out of legal problems with her ex, then to get her kidnapped sister back from the guerrillas, the reasons are endless.  Good luck.

Don't send her anything.  You should send the itemized list that you posted to the agency you met her through.
