HANOI, Vietnam, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem has issued a nationwide alert to try to prevent the return of SARS, the Vietnam News Service reported Monday.
A World Health Organization caution that the pneumonia-like virus could reappear in winter and confirmation of a case of severe acute respiratory syndrome in Singapore, prompted the warning.
Khiem asked customs officials to strengthen their border monitoring and quarantine facilities and report any suspected cases to Vietnam's Health Ministry.
He asked also for isolation quarters at border crossings and airports and said the Health Ministry should provide staff to monitor people arriving in Vietnam.
Khiem wants information on the virus and measures for the prevention of infection circulated to the populace.
