You are a fly boy, can you point me in the right direction?  I gotta get my girl and her son here from Warsaw..  Best deal I have found (without layovers) is Delta at her fare $849 and his $652 (discount as he's 7 years old).  These include tax etc..  It would be their partner, Air France to Paris, Delta to Cincinnatti, then Salt Lake City.
Can't use my skymiles as all the skymile seats are already gone supposedly.. (I was really hoping to use them!).
Tried Aeroflot but all their flights require an overnight in Moscow (at least that's what they told me).  Lot Air doesn't have a flight leaving Warsaw before noon (lazy bastards! LOL!) so too late to miss an overnight at least in New York etc..
Have tried:
American, Northwest, United, Continental, Lufthansa, KLM... all were significantly higher fares than Delta and the Delta flight arrives in my city at 6pm and most of the others get in around 10pm.  I guess if they go Delta, at least they can start Delta mileage accounts and we would all have miles for the same airline..

Any other ideas??

I just checked on LOT's web page and used Dec 5th as the fly date and got a price of $806.60 one-way for the 2 of them to Chicago. The flt. leaves Warsaw at 12:30pm and arrives in Chi. @ 4pm. From there you might be able to use your sky miles or find another good fare.
I would also suggest meeting them at their POE as once you clear customs you must recheck-in, go thru security, etc. And its also very nice to see someone you know when you arrive in a STRANGE country.

But the problem becomes getting them from back east out west (after a couple of hours allowing for customs).  I just couldn't find anyone leaving that late who could get them here without a layover..
I think I'm ok now as I did get a rewards program seat after all..  and I hate to use the free miles for just a short jump in country if I can avoid it..

Delta has told me that would be happy to meet her at her stops, see that she gets to the right flights and walk her though customs etc., no problem..  Very nice of them..  I may still meet them at Cincinatti, I don't know..

Thanks for the info..

....as we don't have to pay most times and can use the jump seat in a pinch. Those fares seem kinda high to me, are they RT? Are you dealing with the carriers directly? (a bad move).

Talk to a consolidator, try Glavs Travel in NYC or Airfares International in TX. (Look on the web for these two, Nellie at Glavs is very good.) There is a lot of code sharing going on these days and it pays to deal with someone besides the carriers. Otherwise you'll just have to bite the bullet and pony up or stay overnight someplace. Stay away from AeroFlop, at least on this run. I would use LOT, why do you need to leave before noon? Whats the hurry?

Good luck, no one said this was gonna be cheap. ;-)

... in response to Can't help much...., posted by LP on Nov 25, 2002

After talking to 3 different Delta reps who were about as helpful as logs, I got a guy who was fantastic!  He DID find me an awards seat for my girl and I will pay cash for the child fare which is $600 (it is a one way).

But it gets better from there!  I have 140,000 total sky miles right now and it takes 50K miles to get her here and that leaves me 90K.  60K will get the two of us round trip to Hawaii for a late honeymoon and that would leave me with 30K, which is good enough for only one person to go to Hawaii or the Carribbean later on..  But this guy says "we can have her flight be roundtrip from Warsaw to Hawaii (instead of Salt Lake) and she can have a stop over in Salt Lake City for up to 11 months before going on to Hawaii! LOL!  That all for the original 50K miles where normally it would have cost 80K miles!  So basically after all is said and done, instead of having 30K left at the end of everything, we would have 60K, enough for another 2 free tickets to Hawaii or the Carribean again whenever we want to go..

I tell ya, getting a good agent who really likes what they do can be an amazing thing...

Regarding Lot-  The problem with them not leaving before noon is that if any of the airlines leave that late, they can get her to New York but then she would be stuck there overnight (tired, in a new city/country, with a 7 year old, etc..) as there are no flights from there late enough to make it out west by that time.  So the flights from Warsaw need to leave early in the AM to make it without a layover..

So I am getting the 2 of them here for $600 and saving a skymiles trip to Hawaii as well..  Not too bad I guess..

Thanks for the input..

... in response to That only...., posted by LP on Nov 25, 2002

By the way, had a very interesting conversation with a cousin I haven't seen for a while who was in town yesterday.  He became a Sky Marshall just last year...
I can't remember who it was on the board that said that only about 10% of flights in the USA had Sky Marshalls on them.. My cousin said this is not at all true, that there are Marshalls on the majority of flights (not as much on the commuter flights but they are even now starting to get on them pretty regularly and adding more all the time).
He told me about finding box cutters taped under seats etc.. Told me about one bomb with C4 that was found..  Pretty interesting stuff..  They keep a very low profile.

.....ambiguous for that very reason. ;-)

Composition 4? Great, I don't need to hear that kinda stuff. Btw, it was me who made the 10% comment.
The majority of flights? Hmmm...occured to me it's not a subject I should be talking about anyway. Lets just say for that to happen there would have to be some very big numbers involved. Remember, they have to be known to the crew when on board.

Btw, in the rush to fill the positions many were not screened properly and some are turning out to be less than professional. Not like the old days when they were the cream of the crop. (No refelection on your Cuz) The bad ones aren't lasting long however. As for keeping a low profile, ask him what he thinks of the recent dress code nonsense. Until recently (if you knew what to look for) FAMs could be spotted a mile away. Thankfully, thats also been resolved now.

Also, ask him what he thinks of an armed crew. I'll bet he thinks pilots should fly and cops should handle bad guys. (I've been on both sides of that coin myself.) At any rate, my cap is off to 'em. It's mind numbing work, at least we get to sleep when no one's looking. ;-)

Yeah, I was surprised when he told me that the majority of flights have Marshalls.  He said that it's fine if people (especially them pesky terrorist types!) think they aren't on many flights, as I said, he informed me they like to keep a very low profile..
He confirmed what you said about losing perhaps some of the "cream of the crop".  He worked for the INS before becoming a Marshall, no military experience etc..  He said may of them are former Delta and special forces guys and it has been tough for him to step up, not having had that background, but he likes it so far..
I'll have to ask him about the "armed crews" issue, I didn't think to ask him about that..

....yeah, I hear them folks at Delta can be pretty nice
sometimes. (lol, I heard the some of the flight crews are a handsome bunch also. ;-)

I understand about Lot now, somehow I thought you were going over for the interview. My bad....

you can disregard that last post, as things have seemed to work out quite nice.
And when you make it out here, what island do you think you will visit? If its Maui, plan on coming over for dinner 1 night.

... in response to well I guess, posted by Stan B on Nov 25, 2002

Funny you should mention that because Delta only flies into the big island or Maui and I would prefer Maui!  I have it reserved for the big island because the agent said that there are not as many flights to Maui.  He will get an update every day and when he finds one that will work, he will page me and let me know about it (that's some service!  I called his supervisor to comment on his great help!).  He is looking for any dates between about mid Feb through mid April.  If he can find it within the next short while, before I have to book the flight, great, if I have to change it later, $100 change fee..  He said that it would really be ok to fly into the big island as the small flights to the other islands is very inexpensive, like $30-$40 per person round trip of something??  Can you tell me if this is true?

I just know that from what I have heard, Maui and Kuai are the places to be in Hawaii.  I really am not interested in Honolulu, have heard it's just like LA, LOL!  Would love to know from a person who lives there, where you would most recommend??

Thanks and if it's Maui, we would be very happy to meet and do dinner!

If you book independantly a RT ticket between islands is now $120-150. You might be able to get it cheaper if it is tacked on to your flight out here, I'm not sure. As for which island is best, I'd say any of the outer islands are great. Oahu, which has Waikiki and Honolulu does have 85% of the states population and can seem like a city on the beach. Kaui and Hawaii are the least developed and have a lot of natural beauty. But even thou Maui is a little more developed than the other 2, it still has its fair share of natural beauty and a lot more things to do after sunset and on rainy days. So I'd say for a 1st time visiter either Hawaii or Maui would be great.
