That is not true they have different eating habits than we do and I know quite a few poeple that have come here from the european side of the world and they are still not fat and this is after many years of being here.  It is our eating habits that make americans fat. We eat in big portions quite quick and eat all the real fatty stuff first. If you look at how europe eats they eat salads and fruits before they eat the main course. Which leaves less room for the bad stuff in the belly. Hence thinner. No pork , I am testament to that I am still the same weight as I was in my low twenties and right on track for for height and weight according to the medical field. Rick

I've heard some guys say that when the woman first comes over she does gain a little until she gets used to the large portions here...

Dunno, since mine isn't here yet.

I mentioned the "freshmen 10" thing to Victoria and she asked: "And how much is acceptable?" she asked me. "Is it OK if I weigh twice as much as I do now?"

I wasn't sure how to answer that one, to be honest... And that really made her laugh.

"I will not gain any weight!" she said. "I will simply work out more."

Easy to say, of course... But one thing she has going for her is that she eats a LOT slower than I do. I was always waiting for her to finish her meals...

And I probably should learn her pace. I know I eat to fast. And eating slower lets you feel full sooner...

... in response to I've heard about the "freshmen 10&q..., posted by MarkInTx on Jun 18, 2002

When I was visiting my girl in Moscow I stayed in her flat.
Each morning she made breakfast it was the same thing...porrige (oatmeal) and each day we had bread with cheese and kilbasa and fruit for a mid day meal. She was always feeding me...seemed like all day.The evening meal was always different but she preferred fish or chicken, always pan fried and served with fruit and a type of salad. I ate as much as I could...it was strange, I lost weight but not that I tried to. When I returned home, I gained it back quickly, not because I porked out...I figured it out a few weeks after my final visit. When I was in Russia, anytime we went someplace it took 2 hours to get there and back...just to go to the grocery store...2 hours minimum. We were always on our feet, standing...waiting for the tram...or walking to metro..riding metro standing..walking back to her flat....always walking or standing. My feet were killing me!
When she invited me to her family datcha..she said we will take the train and walk through the forest a short way....she did not mention that it was a 5 mile walk, each way! She says...lets go for a swim at the river near her datcha....the river was 2 miles away!

When my wife first came here, she noticed the larger portions of food in the restaurants...she liked the "doggie bag" idea of bringing back half of her meal to eat for lunch the next day. But...my wife found sweets very tempting...and she enjoyed icecream with chocolate syrup and the cakes and sweet pastry. Yes, she has gained about 10 pounds...but on her it went to her breasts,(smile) so I am not complaining. I do not think she will blow up..she likes her clothes to fit, and does not want to by more because she gained a few. So she backs off for a week and curbs her desires for sweets to get back on track

Have you ever tried to take a bone away from a hungry dog?
You will probably get growled at...

My wife looks forward to her "leftovers"...it is a pleasure to see her all excited (smile) ..she does like American food though...especially BBQ ribs and Chinese food. She tells me that a Chinese restaraunt in Moscow is very expensive...we have 3 very good ones a short distance from my home, and each time I volunteer to buy dinner...she has her favorite one to choose...all three!

was being in a restaurant and seeing on the menu that a certain dish was a certain number of grams.  Then getting the plate and finding a hunk of my chicken breast cut off because it weighed too much! LOL!  They take this stuff very seriously!

Doesn't do much for the food presentation with a big hunk cut off, you know? ;-)

during his attempt at the first nail, he busted his thumb. Angrily he cursed the hammer. He went to and got a bigger hammer and busted his bent the nail-he cursed the nail. He then got bigger nail and broke the board-he cursed the board. Got a bigger board  that was too big-then he cursed God.
Many guys fail in this venture-mostly because they are not good with hammers.

There once was a guy with a hammer
who found a message board about mail order brides and
wondered, “what’s all the clamor?”
So he emailed a honey
and sent her some money
and in the end he found out she was a scammer.

First let me say that I really I enjoyed your post...

It reminds me of the story of the guy who was the greatest woodcutter on the mountain.

He is in the general store one day and the shopkeeper shows him a new Chainsaw.

"Buy this," he told him, "and you can cut ten times the wood you do now!"

The woodcutter was impressed and bought it.

A week later he is back and throws the thing on the counter in disgust.

"Take this back. It is useless. I can't cut one half the wood with this stupid thing that I can with my axe and saw!"

The shopkeeper is amazed. "Maybe this needs adjusted," he says. "Let's take it outside and test it."

They go out back and the shopkeeper pulls the cord, and the saw roars to life

The woodcutter is amazed.

"What's that NOISE?" he asks...

Moral:

... and some guys fail because they don't ask for directions before they start...

... in response to And then there is the one about..., posted by MarkInTx on Jun 18, 2002

you think you know it all. I don't need hand holding or direction from guys who HAVEN'T done it (married a Russian)...nor do I have to see more that I've seen to make an educated decision that its not the kind of effort or risk that I'M intersted in. There are allot of nice women elsewhese with allot less risk and emotional and financial risk involved. Don't make such assumptions and spew out senseless diatribe about helplessness. If I was a "newbie" I'd be buying into the bull**it, but I've got enough sense to see major pitfalls. If its your cup of tea...all the power to ya!!

Something is not making sense here at all. If you have done your homework then you know that all MOB regardless of where you go has risk. Does going to the FSU pose greater risk?  You seem to think so but, I am not so sure. I think that there is just more written about it.

Where do you get your information that there is less risk with Latinos?

You say you do not need help from those who have not done it? So, you are saying that guys who have gone over, met several women with one or more trips over a six to 24 month time frame have nothing to offer you ---- yet you got scammed? Hmmmm.

Maybe the whole MOB thing is not your cup of tea relative to risk. I personally do not think, but can not prove just that you can not prove the opposite, that going to the Latin American countries is going to provide any less risk. I will agree as I mentioned before that more has been written about the FSU scammer which very well mean nothing.

I would like to have to you return to keep us posted regarding you new direction and how it turns out for you.

Are you up to that? If not, good luck to you and may your non future FSU days be scam free

one man pit fall is other man wishing well!
and one man dung heap is other man flower bed!
you are going to need a little better sense of humor if you are going to even venture out of your home town for date-let alone a lifetime partner.
