Have any of you guys heard from the guy from Maui who brought his wife and little girl over after one trip.

He used to post alot, and I was curious how it all turned out for him.

Everything is going great and both Marina and our daughter Katya are loving it here. Katya has been going to pre-school for 2 months now and Marina has been looking for a part-time job for the last few weeks, but its an extremely tight job market over here since so many employers cut back their work forces after 9/11. She does have 2 leads that she'll look into tomorrow and we'll she what comes of that.
Marina also got her drivers permit and has been out on the road a few times already. Fortuneately we don't have a lot of roads here and driving here is one of the easiest places in the USA.
We've been out on a whale watch and the 2 of them are going out on another on Tues as part of a school trip that Marina voluntered(?) to help out on.
Their transition to life here was also very smooth, with the only major problems being them missing their family and friends. But living next to the beach and having tourists tell you how they dream of living here and how lucky they must be to do so has helped some too. I'd imagine that living in the middle of nowhere would not be as enjoyable and could make adapting a little harder. Plus Maui is a very friendly and open place where people are much more likely to say hello and talk to strangers.
Its also nice that all of my friends absolutely adore both of them and for me to hear how lucky I am to have met them as they are 2 of the nicest people on this earth. And she is also 1 of the few women that I have met that can cook as well as I and I've gained 20 much needed pounds since their arrival...aloha

Hey it does sound as though things are going good from Stan's perspective. I, however, am like LP, I would not consider anything a success until a few years past two have transpired. Not negative just the practical side of me yet, if I was in Stan's situation, I would only be positive about it --- .. I mean once you make the move - it is the only way to be.

But, I have a good feeling about Stan and his new family. I also think that where he is living with less of other distractions is good for the whole process.

I think if a guy is reasonably normal and kind to his wife, and he chooses a little older lady, especially with a child, there is a good chance it is going to last.

Stan did both.

However I did not.

I think I hit my head getting off the plane, chose a drop dead gorgeous 18 year old, and had one exciting ride for 3 years.  Huge highs ballanced out by deep lows.  In the end it turned out to be the saddest, most depressing decision of my life.  I was 32 and she was 18.  Hellooooo.

I guess they call it the "test of time" for a good reason. But as you said, once you have made the step, positive is the only reasonable perspective. At least Stan's start is better than some I have read about. And some of the RWs in Russian language chat rooms I have been reading are not always so upbeat about the circumstances they find themselves in. And of course some are. But this sounds like good news to me.

"Stan B" has a post below.  We've heard no complaints out of him.  Once you're married, your time will not be spent on the internet.
