... in response to About Victorias Secret scents-, posted by Oscar on Feb 14, 2002

Sounds better than baseball caps for my babe I guess.  I just have a hard time deciphering what smells good on one will be enjoyed by another (me damit).  My old time favorite has got to be that good old vanilla thing from a few years back, and then to go back to the 70's... what was it... can't think of the name, but it's still made though.

Kind of like some old music that never wears out.

aha.

Actually that is more my perception then hers. She didn't watch me type that post or she would have said something because she doesn't like it when I talk highly of her. Anyway she lived her life in Moscow dealing with the people that had power and made her own money and owns 4 flats. She does everything first class, She is highly educated, speaks Turkish, French, English, and Russian. (wink) She traveled abroad frequently, and just things that on average are not so common among the average ladies I noticed. She is a business lady and her friends and associates are very well off as far as money is concerned, and her circle of friends knows expensive things when they see it, and would think a T-shirt would appear as a cheap gift. I hope I didn't offend anyone.

I'd say your wife is a well educated and welthy by Russian standarts woman. But you know I had met many women as educated as your wife but unfortunately not as welthy. It's just happens to be that your wife is more lucky than the rest.IMHO words "higher society" lost their true meaning since  Revolution in 1917.Right now there are alot of rich new Russians who are proud to be part of Russian higher society and very powerful people but they simply can't put 2 words together because lack of their education. Many of these people have criminal past and still envolved in criminal activities.Thats how they make their money. So as you see Russian higher society is very interesting subject to discuss Wink

I agree about the new Russians and how they get their money! My wife made a lot of her money working as a translator, or as a go between for different companies in different countries. She would either get money as a reward for securing a big project, or kick backs by providing information to other contractors so they could bid on projects and things like that depending on what she was working on at the time. She and another girl once got a few thousand just to count 18 million in bribe money!

On my trip, I took 4 sets of items from Bath & Body Works. Matching lotion, bubble bath, etc. They have 6-8 products for each of their scents. These went over VERY WELL.

I also have access to a lot of stuffed animals because I own a carnival game concession. I have a semi-trailer filled with this stuff and I took over a bag of Teddy Bears. They loved them!

The other popular gift was Yankee Candles. Go with the "buttercream" flavor.

but the things that were enjoyed the most were the things that were regional to where you live. The olympic gifts are great, as well as the perfumes. I'm from Hawaii, so I brought some Kona coffee, mac-nuts and some island print sarongs.
But like the saying goes. its the thought that counts...aloha

My wife Oxana loves anything from Victoria Secret.  Anything which shows it is from America, eg. caps, t-shirts, the Olympic stuff you mentioned would be an excellent choice. I took over several US dollar and half-dollar coins for the kids - they loved them. Another gift that went over very well was a mini Leatherman tool. Hope this helps...

The Russia Journal - www.russiajournal.com - has an article that lists some popular gifts, along with prices (in Moscow).  The title of the article is: "St. Valentine's flowers."

Tea or coffee might be good gifts for the family.  My wife says that most Russians can't afford good imported coffee or tea.  The quality of the Russian brands is poor.  She says that Russian coffee tastes and smells like dirty water.  Even the generic supermarket brands here are better.

Oscar,
This reply is about gifts but not necessarily for girls. I found sons, brothers, and friends of ladies I knew really got a lot of enjoyment from playing frisbee. Not something real common in Ukraine so on my last trip I took 6 of them with me to give as gifts; 3 normal frisbees and 3 flat flying rings, and of course had to show them how they were used. They were very well received.
Just something for your consideration.

Sounds like a good "simple" idea; I'm looking for the simpler things like this.  Who the hell should give a rats but about Victoria's secret, when I live in a middle america house and lifestyle?

I wish that RW Wife and Oksana and the rest of the RW that post here would respond to this thread, to provide some REAL clues as to what is appreciated, in the long term.

As in simple things like can openers, or whatever - those that will be remembered forever, because they actually last forever.  Oh well.

All that bs said Pete, you should register, instead of posting anonymously.

There's nothing to fear, after all, even the registered trolls her get away with murder..... (no I don't consider you one, just that it's time to get it over with).

Well Brian, Victoria Secret small set of perfume or stuff from Bath & Body works would be a nice gift.My husband brought few baseball caps with him and my men relatives just loved it! Toys for kids would do just fine. I only can say that seeds for the garden or even potatoes wouldn't impress me even would hurt my feelings. My husband left with me his camera (not expensive kind 20-30$) and I cherished this gift alot. I made alot of pictures using his camera while we were apart.
