I am very happy to tell you that the cat scan and the Spinal came back negative, but the stress level was unbelivable at certain moments along the way.  Elena was feeling better last night, as would be expected if they had properly diagnosed her, which they seemed to have.  The anti-biotic administered at the hospital seems to have begun to work as well as the anti-biotic she is now taking.  She spent part of the night up with the shivers and workde up a pretty good sweat, but she is back on her feet this morning and though far from 100%, she is vastly improved form yesterday morning.

Obviously we will take it easy for the next couple of days, and in the big picture everything is okay.  I can joke about it a litlle bit now and I am sure she has interesting story to tel her friends back home.  Of cousre I told her that she was not supposed to get sick for a couple of weeks so that I could add her to my insurance policy...apparent cost at the hospital-about $800,inclusive of her prescription.

Anyway, welcome to America.

Lee,

First of all good luck to you both for the future. Your story was quite fascinating, and I am sure an experience like that brought both of you together even closer.
I remember my fiancee telling me many times her philosophy in life - "everything for the better", however bad it may seem at the moment. I must admit I think about those words quite often, and more I think about it the more I tend to agree.
Anyway, good luck and I hope all will be going just nice for you.

There is also a Murphy's law in this process. {Something needs to be fixed before you start repairs} ..etc.
If you wish and when you get extra time please consider registration and a profile timeline so we can know more about you and your's.

You had problems with the AMC also? My fiancee just had her exam done- she has a huge bruise all the way up her arm to her shoulder from where they drew the blood sample. Huh Some professional nurse?? And, the (Russian) doctor was a real jerk who criticised her and was very cold and inpolite. Gee... 24 hours and $105 later she got her results. Are we supposed to be elated? What a ripoff clinic. Choose a cheaper one, guys...

... in response to AMC nightmares..., posted by Goofpod on Oct 21, 2001

I seem to remember that there are 4 choices of medical clinics in Moscow that are authorized (or listed anyway by the embassy web site) for doing the K-1 visa medical exam.  AMC is one and there have been various posts on the quality of services provided by them.  Are there any other experiences of the group concerning AMC or the other clinics?  Any recommendations?  Thanks

My wife got there and told her that the computerized type of x-rays they use revealed she had "spots" on her lungs and it was going to cost an additional $500.00 but not to worry, with the extra money it "would" be resolved.

AAA-holes...We went to another medical center and it was resolved quite quickly and NO additional money.A BIG SCAM TOWARD US SUPPOSEDLY RICH WESTERNERS...

I'm not surprized at all to learn someone else had a problem with the American Medical Center in Moscow...

Is not at all like you are describing the Moscow office. Olya and I have had the unfortunate experience of needing AMC's services about 3 or 4 times, and they were outstanding each time. They are, however, quite expensive and cater to expatriates living in Kyiv that have health insurances to cover/reimburse most of the costs. For that reason, and that alone, we chose to have Olya's medical exam done by the Hospital for Oil Refining in Kyiv - and they also did an excellent job.

Anyway, I am mostly just wanting to say that the AMC offices are apparently not the same between Kyiv and Moscow. Our experiences in Kyiv have been excellent.

Cheers,

- Dan

Wow, what a way to kick off your homecoming! Good thing it didn't reach the critical stage (104 degrees) during the flight. Congrats to the return, and thank you for your posts from the embassy. My fiancee, Luba, had to return to Kazan empty-handed since her Oct 18th interview was cancelled. Very disappointing. So, now we will try again for some time in the future.

Best wishes,

~Ralph

Lee,

I am very glad you made it back with your fiancee, although I can only imagine what a nightmare it was to have her get sick like that. Anyway, I am glad everything is ok now.

I wish you both much happiness in your new lives together.

John
