Has anyone stayed in the Dann Carlton Hotel in BAQ?

Just wondering if its any good.  How would it compare to the Prado, as I can't find photos of Dann anywhere, but Prado everywhere.

I tried to stay in the Dann Carlton Hotel in Medellin. I made a confirmed reservation, guaranteed my reservation with a credit card, and when I go there I was told, Sorry Senor, we have your reservation but we don't have a room for you, our mistake. I had to pay my own cab to another hotel they recommended.

Really nice, but as said before, might as well be in any American city, except
the help is much nicer looking. That rotating restaurant on the roof is not as
exciting as you might think, and the view is way better from the Plaza. The
food at the Dann is the best of any hotel I've visited in the city. El Prado's
rooms look like they were last decorated in 1971, but the grounds are so
nice, it's the only place I stay in BAQ.

I visited the Dann and got a tour of the rooms.  Very nice!  It is located across the street from the Buena Vista Mall, one of the few attractions in BQ.  However, I prefer the location closer in – in the vicinity of the El Prado or Barranquilla Plaza for example.  I have stayed at the Prado once – rooms are average but it is an upscale hotel with a very nice pool.  Some guys seem to like the Puerto de Sol but I have never been there.  Another option is the Barranquilla Plaza.  Good location and has the Piso 26 (26th floor which is a nice place to take your date for drinks/dancing and view of the city).  A much less expensive smaller hotel I can recommend is called the Versalles.  It will take some negotiating to get the best price at all hotels– but it can be done by email in some cases – don’t expect the first price quoted is the right price.  After all, you are in Latin America.  Here are some links

http://www.hbp.com.co

http://www.hotelversallesinn.com

http://www.hotelelprado.com.co

Pricing for a standard room at the Versalles runs about 70000 pesos with JR suites around 100,000 pesos including tax and breakfast.  Weekend rates for a JR Suite at the BAQ Plaza run just under 150000 pesos with tax and breakfast and higher weekdays with standard rooms less.  The El Prado is around 200000 pesos.  The Dann will deal – you should be able to get in there around 125000-150000 pesos

This is what they emailed me for the quote, which I thought was reasonable.

La tarifa VIERNES, SABADOS, DOMINGOS Y LUNES FESTIVOS ES DE

ALOJAMIENTO $ 119.000
IVA $ 19.000
SEG HOT $ 4.060
TOTAL $ 134.060

La tarifa De Lunes A Jueves es de

Alojamiento $ 149.000
Iva $ 14.900
Seg hot $ 4.060
Total $ 167.960

But I think I'll pay daily and after a couple days tell them I'm going to another hotel and see if they offer me a lower rate.

I am in Michigan and dont have the pricing the Dann quoted me but that sounds reasonable especially if it includes breakfast - you might want to ask if it is not listed and again is a very nice hotel, brand new. The only issue is the location. Your dates might want something closer. But on the plus side, you have the mall across the street. However, as I posted below, I think you are giving up on North America way too soon. But happy travels anyway

You mentioned the location.  How far is it form Centro?  Should I be concerned about the distance if I only plan on meeting about 3-4 girls and offer to pay there taxi to me?  Even though I have met them through an agency, I don't plan on metting them in person through the agency.  At least thats what I hope.  The girls I'm meeting are girls that I am exchanging daily emails with and phone conversations, so I don't think the agency is needed so much from now on.  Especially since my spanish is good enough to communicate clearly to the ladies.

I will actually post a new topic about this on the top of the forum.

better not post a new topic at the top or Ray might have a fit..LOL. My guess is closer in will be better for the ladies (and save yu on taxi fare) but what the heck. The Dann is still a good choice. But if you do need the agencies to help meet some more ladies, you would be better staying at the Versalles or Prado
