I am interested to see in general where guys who are either still married or getting married eventually found their significant other in South America...What I know so far:

BOGOTA - Wizard

PERU-  Me, Jimmystlouis, Red Clay

BRAZIL  - Jake, Brazilophile

I know this list is incomplete so if others would here would also respond I will then have a complete tally and will post the new results......

If you can, please fill us in on some of your experiences. Your interest in real estate, especially in Cali runs parallel with our Veteran poster "Pete E". There seems to be a small, but determined number of American Men making moves on the Colombian real estate market. If it's not too personal, are you buying places to rent or to flip?

Hoda, I am buying small condos in the north, La Flora behind Exito not far from Latin Best. They are new with preconstruction prices. I have seen a big improvement in Colombia since 2000 under the leadership of Uribe. Most people support him and feel that the country is more secure even though FARC is still active. I see this as an opportunity to be part of a coming expansion in Colombia. My plan is to rent them and then sell them in five years. I think that I can double my money. Of course for the right price I would flip them before. I agree with Pete that location is probably the most important consideration with real estate in Colombia. People will pay money for a secure area with visable appearance of security guards and police. I plan to keep one for myself as an air conditioned haven for when we visit my wife's family close by in Los Alamos.

I do not recall seeing you on this board until just the last few days.  Maybe I have missed something.  At any rate, I read your profile.  You are close to the same age as Pete. May I ask you a few questions?  How long have you been married?  What age is your wife? Have you been married for very long?  I enjoy hearing some good success stories from guys who have already married a latina. How far outside of Cali is the town your wife is from?  Did you say Los Alamos?  If so, that reminds me when I used to live in New Mexico.  I love New Mexico.  I used to live in Albuquerque.  My family and I also liked to visit many other places there, like Santa Fe and Los Alamos, etc.  Well, I got off the subject.  I see that you are investing in real estate.  That is good. For a short time, I was emailing a lady in Cali who is a real estate agent there.  I do not know her full name, but her first name is Liliana.  At that time, she was a member of Latin-Internet.  I am not sure if she is still a member or not.  But, since Pete is active in that, he could help you if you needed any assistance.  Have you already bought the condos?  If so, do you have any idea of the price you will charge to rent them?  Will any of them be available for short term rent?  I know that Pete and another guy on this board (Heat) has rooms that they rent for a few days at a time.  I plan on using one of them when I come to Cali in the near future.  I am just curious if you are looking at any Gringo business, or just to Colombians?  Well, good luck.

Yep, I am new to the board. I started my search in Cali in 2000 and made many stupid and expensive mistakes. I found the woman of my dreams in 2000 but did not figure it out until 2002 when we got married on a finacee visa. In July we will be married 3 years and have not had a bad moment ... period. I am 63 and she is 36. The age difference is not a factor at all because she found a man that treats her good (far better than a Colombian) and she loves me and I love her. Los Alamos is in the city of Cali, it is the barrio to the east of La Flora only five minutes by cab from the condo location.

I already bougth seven condos in a project with six buildings of nine floors each situated in a circle facing the mountains with underground parking. I have not given much consideration to the amount of term of renting because they will not be complete until the end of the year. I was hoping to contact Pete for his input but can not reach him via his profile e-mail address. I am looking for low maintenance on the rental process and will probably use a real estate company that specializes in this area because I do not want the hassle.  This is my e-mail if you can get Pete to drop me a line ... mtn_man_@bellsouth.net .. thanks maggiemtnman
