Just a thought ( for on-topic discussion ;-)

I noticed in my conversations this past week that I was as informed about events in the USA as Jerry.

What have you found to be the pluses & minuses of World media coverage of the USA on your relationships with those in Asia?

After seeing several documentaries, news casts and  stories, I haven't seen anything positive in the media. When a russian girl was killed by her husband and HIS boyfriend, the focus was on making K-1s and Spousal Visas MUCH tougher to get. A 60 Mimutes segment on MOB's(The media doesn't recognize Pen Pal), all cases were total failures. Even a special on the worldwide child slave and sex underworld touched on the evils of American marrying foreigner just to have a house/sex slave. The media hasn't done my wife or myself any favors. Our friends that accept us as a happily married couple come down to three other happily married Fil/Am couples with nearly 100 years of marraige between them.

Hi Jean,

The most striking example of skewed perceptions vs. reality that I found was that most Filipinas assumed that nearly all Americans loved Bill Clinton, because of the liberal bias in the media.  Sally was shocked when I told her I considered Clinton a dishonest demagogue without character or conscience.  She thought his only flaw was in his philandering.  I told her I considered the man dangerous to our country, given that he had neglected and abused the military and politicized the FBI and Justice Department.

Glad to see that Jerry is out of the dog house Shocked)  I hope all is well now with whatever the situation came to be.  My warning to Jerry about Huma was sincere, although phrased with humor.  Huma can be over-zealous and rude at times, but IMO his point of view should not be discounted and this board can benefit from it.  I hope he sticks around too because he cracks me up!

Cheers,
Jim
