and I was so HAPPY
I subscribe to the theory that the best time to be on a plane as far as chances of crashes go, is just after there's been a crash. (apart from 9/11) - chances there'll be another one are slim.
Happy - why? Let me explain. Everybody tells me that sooner or later you'll be robbed in LA - fact of life.
Remember the Rob Nero character in Cape Fear? I swear this guy was a carbon copy 'cept lankier individual. We were on our way to Crepes and Waffles at 4pm - bright sunshine but empty-ish main road. Me and Alejandra dressed up - more than normal. Alejandra sees him 50 metres away and comments that he looks suspicious. I'm a bit short-sighted.
He stepped in front of me in such away I had to stop. Has his hand inside his half-zipped jacket and suggests he has a weapon. Says he's just out of jail after 6 years. Wants us to give him money and he won't make any trouble. Opens his palm and shows uu about $10 in coins that he's just robbed off somebody else.
What would you do in this situation? I look at him - he is the most criminal looking guy i've ever seen in my life. Honestly, if he could clean up his act there's a host of bit parts awaiting him in Hollywood. He's 6ft tall. Consider belting him. Decide against it - what if he has a knife or gun concealed as he is suggesting. Don't want to show him my wallet. Eventually have this wierd conversation whereby agree taht life is tuough here in Ecuador - I know because live here, earn here and have baby child. He could give a f*** but maybe it sweetens him just a tiny fraction. I got $13 in my wallet and Alejandra $80 in her cartera. Pull out my wallet - show him the ones - "see, only ones," he tries to peer over my wallet rim to see if i am telling the truth. There was a 10 note left. That said he took the 3, looked at me a bit disgusted, and slunk off.
Now you see why I'm happy. He could have knifed me, took everything,
hurt us. Instead my first robbery was by a guy i could talk to and i only last $3 - hardly even counts as a robbery.
And according to my theory the next robbery is now some time away - but i'm not taking any chances - where's some wood?
The crepe and postre tasted even better than normal.
