Hello Gang,

I have come out of hiding. I'm back in the USA. I followed Cali-Vet's post, and I contacted some people in Cali and called the Colombian Embassy in Washington DC today myself.

I was concerned about the Emergency Powers granted to the security forces by Uribe, and some other things.

The Embassy said not to worry, these precautions and restrictions only apply to areas that have experienced intense violence, and are mostly rural areas and small towns. Not like Cali.

I plan to visit Colombia 3 times this year, for about 2 to 3 weeks each time. I'm also thinking about buying a house there within the next 2 years to live there during part of the year.

As for Australia, it's a beautiful place to visit, and there are some pretty girls, but I couldn't live there. I'm happier back in the USA, with my friends, family, and closer to Latin America.

Nos Vemos,
Aaroncito

H.

I'm trying to lay low and limit the number of posts. But, I'll answer your question. Actually, Australia is pretty diverse. Many people with heritage from England (most people), Italy, Asia, India, Lebanon, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Some Arabs. The city where I lived is very European, cosmopolitan, trendy, but I found many people kind of materialistic and superficial.

As for the women, there are many knockouts, especially with the Italian girls. However, the pretty girls seemed too materialistic and trendy for me to even consider as a potential wife. For example, most of the better looking women walked around in high heal shoes or boots, leather or fur coats, make-up, perfume, jewerly, sunglasses, and their noses in the air. I found allot of the women kind of spoiled. It seemed that for these women, they had the general attitude that the world revolved around trinkets and financial success, but actually none of these girls had an ounce of intellect. Physically, the women are great, but mentally I wasn't impressed. But, I'm generalizing too much here. I'm sure there are many nice girls, but most likely they aren't the better looking ones. I kind of found the society there to be sexist towards women. Being an American there, did carry some weight with the women. They were impressed because I am from the USA. Many of the people there would love to visit and even live in the USA, but can't afford the trip.

Bye,
Aaron

Hey Aroncito, welcome back! and thanks for checking out that report. For houses check the Sunday classifieds on elpais-cali.com. Last Sunday there were tons. You've already seen La Flora, there are some really nice houses there for sale.

Aaron,
The Austailian gig is over? Was it the job or not liking living there or not liking the job enough to live there?
I think you will be happier living in the US with the ability to fly in to Colombia frequently,so welcome back, its good to hear from you.
Finding the right woman is right at the top of the list to be happy so I think its worth arranging things so you can do it.I'm sure you have lots of career opportunities here with your resume.

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the support. I found a job a week after I arrived home. I wasn't happy with my experience over there.

Aaron,
Well, good, actually. Now you don't have to wait to put your Colombiana plan in to action. To me its always frustrating to have to wait to do what you really want to do.That Austrailian thing would have had to be an incredible deal for me to wait 2-3 years to get going on what I really wanted to do.So I am glad for you that it was not worth doing.
So hopefully this new job won't make you wait too long before you can take some time to travel to Colombia.

Pete
