What can I say? It's been busy, so I have not been keeping an eye on the board... but the date is stil (gasp, choke) the 18th... I fly out on thursday, and stay with her brother until Sunday, then...

Oh well, it's my first mariage, her second, and I'm satisfied. Nervous?  wel, I've made it 41 years w/o marriage, so this is a big step. Also, Luisa (mi prometida) is right for me... I did not usa a matchmaker, and met her thru friendfinders... no more testimonial needed, I think.

So... in my upcoming wedding, let me wax philosophical (I think it's better than hyperventilating): Why did I look outside the US for a wife?

I didn't want to find some 18 year old hottie ( okay, I wanted to, but reality set in... a short, chubby, balding older guy (i.e. myself) IS NOT going to attract some teenaged beauty with my looks... and it's easier to be a father figure than a novio to an 18 year old.

I did want to find someone with a sense of adventure. Any woman willing to relocate to a country she has only visited, in which she will not speakthe language, and where she knows few people, has a sense of adventure, and has a strong personality also.

I wanted to find somewone that thought like I do about religious/spiritual matters. I'm trying to pick words carefully here-- I live in Alabama, and I'm not a fan ofparts of the  culture here, religious or social culture.  Thus, finding someone with similar views was simply not an option here.

I could say more, but don't want to bore you-- So! enough of my rambles... time to go hyperventilate,I suppose.

Jeff,

It sounds like you had really thought hard about what you were looking for and made a good decision.  Best of luck to you.

I've been married two months and my wife has been here about five months.  Spirit of adventure and strong personality fit my wife too.  You have just survived the easiest part of the process but I'm sure that you'll learn about each other and your cultures and be very happy.

Jim

Jeff,
I got married about 2 mos ago to a girl from Barranquilla that I brought up on a K-1 visa.  You are about to embark on a very serious journey.  It takes a TON of effort to get through the adjustment period with them.  I must admit, we are not finished with ours yet, but we are working on it.

It sounded like your fiance doesn't speak Eglish...how's your Spanish?  Hope you speak it, because you will need it.

Good Luck,
Mike

We've been planning (or she has, anyway) the wedding since August. I've tried to tell her about the differences. and thank goodness we're both adults... regarding language, I'm fluent, unless we're discussing phuysics, or something. Luisa has been studying English, but when she arrives, she'll be in for a great shock, I'm afraid.  Good luck to you two as well!
