Today's lesson is In regard to women form Cali..."Why gringo's who live in cold weather climates are at a disadvantage, compared to gringo's who live in warm climates." If you ever been next to a women from Cali, (I think you spell it Calena, after a rain storm when the temperature drops then you will understand what I mean. These girls will bring a sweater with them and employ said item, with great enthusiasm. The temperature will be in the low 70's at this point and the girls are freezing. Another point much of the television programing features shows from south Florida. I think many of these ladies assume the climate in the USA is the same as Miami. So when traveling to Colombia (Cali, excluding Bogota) or another warm weather climate in Latin America, I think you need to explain from the beginning that you live in a cold weather area, and I'm not talking low 70's.

I hear what your saying about the Calenas, the temperature drops a few degress to maybe 70 and they're complaining about how cold it is while I'm sweating away from the humidity.  But notice that in the morning they shower in that FREEZING Cali water.  I can last only about 30 seconds but they take their leisurely time and frequently comment on how refreshing the water is.  They're crazy, its @#$% frio.

I remember thinking this was all rather strange when I first moved to Cali last year.  Within two months however I found my self being chilled in the evening or when it rained also. The lesson is a good one but it's not a show stopper, even Calenas will acclimate to their new environment.

While it's true many ladies from very warm climates will not like the cold, most will acclimate with time.  My wife thought San Diego was cold when she arrived from Cali, but she loves to visit the mountains in the winter and play in the snow now.

It may be more of a disatvantage to live in a very rural area with no local Latino population when you're searching for a wife in one of the bigger Latin cities.  Culture shock and isolation will be hard on her. I don't think climate is as important as you think.

Patrick you and your wife live in San Diego which is considered to have one of the best climates in the USA. Then you explain I don't think the climate is important on the situation. That's like working in a "RAID" bug spray factory and stating "I don't see an insect problem in my area" Living in beautiful San Diego hardly would constitute as "roughing it" And if your wife. who's from Cali, complained about San Diego, what would she say about Buffalo,Chicago,Boston, ect. I'm not talking about a trip to the mountains in a heated car, then back down to San Diego. I mean a 6 month winter. The weather is a small factor, but it's a fact like it or not.

actually, my wife is from the DR, and the first year was tough, she arrived in NY it was 7 degrees and snow. then when she saw spring and summer, she adapted very well. as a matter of fact if i mention maybe moving to the south. she is completely against it. she has friends here ( more than i do ) and would tolerate the winter anytime over being alone without friends.

You should mention any serious climate differences to a woman you are seriously interested in, but how she would adapt depends on her as an individual.
I grew up in southern California, then moved ten years ago to Colorado, then Seattle with its six months a year of gray skies, then Michigan, now Spain...no big deal, a few snowfalls and I knew the drill. Then again, some people literally have to have sunny weather, and can't handle western Oregon and Washington. Depends on the person.

My Calena novia fits this profile exactly.  I live in Phoenix and use no sheets and a fan while we sleep.  She bundles up like it's freezing.  In Bogota this week, I though she was going to die from the cold.

Being a Canuck not a Gringo and having been to Columbia I know that statement is just not true. The fact is that many a cold winter night has forced us to be better Lovers and Mates than our American cousins. If a Colombian women spends one night with a Canuck they will never want to be with a gringo again.

The Europeans, Canadians, and Aussies are coming..... The colombian women will have more flavours to choose from besides plan old vanilla "american gringos".

Just having fun with you :-).

I heard that snowbirds are attacked by flying "Chads" and that George W thinks this practise is fair!!!. I will stick to going to Colombia where the rebels are rebels and the Women are Beautiful.

Thanks for the invite though......
