I just tried to edit my post below and was not allowed because the date had changed.  (I posted about 11:00 pm on 12/2/02 and went back to correct my notoriously bad spelling around 1:00 am on 12/3/02.  My question is, how difficult would it be to run the editing time checks on a 24 hour period based on the date and time of the post rather than just the date?

Also, have you thought about adding a spell checker? Sometimes in my haste to post, I don't think about checking the post in my word processor before hitting the submit button.

btw, I do like the bulletin board software here better than elsewhere.  I also know you have put a lot of time into this system.

I'd have to change the date stamps in the software to get better than 1 day resolution to make the posts editable for 24 hours.  I knew this was an issue when I created the edit capability, but didn't want to have a change that would require a re-write of the archiving software.

Spell checkers are pretty complicated to implement, and I don't know if I'll be adding anything like that in the near future.  It's a good idea for an upgrade though.  I've got to turn my attention to other parts of the site now.  I've finally just about caught up with all the agency URL submissions.  Next I have to gather all the missing data on all the agenies that registered before I added the new data items, then complete the agency serach engine, and then (finally) get the banner ad programs running again so I can stop working for free (actually it's less than free with the web hosting fees).

At one point I considered switching to a commercial message board format (VBulletin) but the overwhelming response from all the boards was not to change it.  It has many advanced features, but it's also more complicated for users.  Even I found it a little confusing when I installed it and tested it out.  It would also require quite a bit of hacking to add all the anti-troll stuff I've implemented in my custom code (and to transfer the existing accounts).

How would we recognise those double-identity posters and the returning trolls with new ISP's? Besides the spelling police will be upset.

I used Word to spell check your post and found the error (my spelling's not too good either!)
