America holds up the visa process of thousands of Russians, essentially not allowing thousands of Russians to enter the US. Maybe it is tit-for-tat. Russia see's the opportunity to hold up the departure of some of it's citizens who are married to Americans, or some of it's Russian children whose mother's are going crazy in trying to get her children back to her in the states.

All of a sudden with no warning, July 22 Russian visa's are no longer granted. Thousands of young ladies and I am sure hundreds of Russian men are waiting to be issued visa's.  The US has just stopped issueing these visa's.

What can Russia do?  Well, we can certaintly screw with our own people they say! So if some Russian woman married to an American man is traveling by herself, let's find a reason to hold her. If she is traveling with her American husband, well, we'll have to let her leave as it would present to much political trouble if we detained the wife, surely the husband would stay behind, go to the Embassy here in Moscow and create great problems, but whenerver we can catch one of these ladies traveling without her husband and we can find one litsy-bitsy tiny error in any of her paperwork, we'll hold her for awhile. We (Russia) can play the same game as the American goverment is playing. You want to screw with us and not release visa's, we'll make sure you catch hell from some American husbands!

Now, potentially, wifes and children and thousands of fiancee's are nothing more than pawns in a political chess game.

... in response to I wonder, posted by Jack on Oct 4, 2002

You may be right, Jack, my wife returned through Moscow with me last month with no problem (although we went through different lines).  It might have been different if I had not been with her.
